Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has been chosen by the US Army to modernize building automation systems at Fort Benning, Georgia, one of the country’s largest military installations. The project is designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce power demand, and strengthen infrastructure resilience.
The modernization effort includes upgrades to LED lighting and advanced lighting controls, installation of occupancy sensors, enhancements to building control systems, and power conditioning improvements to deliver stable and balanced voltage. Building on work initiated in 2019, this new phase is expected to generate an additional $1.8 million in annual savings, bringing total projected savings to nearly $4.5 million per year over the next 15 years.
Col Jerel Evans, Garrison Commander at Fort Benning, said continued investment in energy modernization is essential to maintaining operational readiness. He noted that smarter, more resilient systems enhance daily operations while supporting mission effectiveness.
The project will be powered by Honeywell’s Niagara building control platform, which will unify monitoring and diagnostics across more than 3 million square feet of space and nearly 300 buildings through a single interface. Sudhakar Janakiraman, President of Honeywell Building Solutions, said the collaboration reflects Honeywell’s ongoing commitment to supporting energy resilience and efficiency for national defense facilities. He added that the upgrades will improve reliability while delivering long-term cost savings for the U.S. Army. Honeywell’s work at Fort Benning builds on similar projects completed at other Department of Defense facilities, including Kunsan Air Base, Tinker Air Force Base, and Rock Island Arsenal.
