United Drilling Tools Limited (UDTL) (BSE: 522014 | NSE: UNIDT), one of India’s leading manufacturers of specialized oil and gas equipment, has marked a significant milestone by successfully supplying and deploying its advanced premium connection casing for Oil India Limited (OIL). The successful installation and performance of the company’s premium production casing in a gas well in Assam establishes UDTL’s presence in India’s premium casing and tubing segment, a high-value market traditionally served by a limited number of domestic and international suppliers.
Under a development order from Oil India Limited, UDTL supplied 5,000 metres of 7-inch premium production casing, which has been successfully installed and commissioned in one of OIL’s gas wells. The company expects formal confirmation from Oil India regarding the successful field performance of its premium connection technology.
Premium connections are engineered with advanced metal-to-metal sealing technology that delivers superior leak-proof and gas-tight performance under challenging operating conditions, including high-pressure, high-temperature, corrosive, deep and highly deviated wells. Their successful deployment demonstrates UDTL’s capability to manufacture advanced oilfield products beyond conventional API-standard casing connections.
India’s premium casing and tubing market is estimated at approximately ₹2,600 crore, with an annual demand of nearly 1.2 lakh tonnes. National oil companies account for nearly half of this demand, while the remainder comes from private exploration companies and oilfield service providers. Increasing deepwater exploration and technically complex drilling operations are driving sustained demand for premium connection products.
The successful deployment with Oil India positions UDTL to participate in this growing market while supporting India’s objective of strengthening domestic manufacturing and reducing dependence on imported energy equipment. The achievement also enhances the company’s prospects for securing future approvals and business opportunities with other major operators, including ONGC, as well as private exploration companies such as Vedanta (Cairn Oil & Gas), Reliance Industries, Adani and Welspun Exploration.
