TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, one of India’s leading integrated biofuels companies and the country’s largest ethanol producer, has received approval for financial assistance of ₹150 crore under the Government of India’s PM JI-VAN Yojana for its proposed Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Bagalkot, Karnataka. The approval has been granted by the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, marking a significant step forward in the company’s plans to expand into advanced biofuels and support the development of a domestic sustainable aviation fuel industry.

The approved assistance is expected to cover approximately 7–10 percent of the project’s capital expenditure, improving project viability and accelerating the establishment of large-scale SAF production capacity in India. The support has been sanctioned under the PM JI-VAN Yojana, a flagship government initiative aimed at promoting the commercialization of advanced biofuel technologies through financial incentives and policy support.

TruAlt’s proposed facility is planned with an annual production capacity of 10 crore litres of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Once operational, the project is expected to contribute significantly to India’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from the aviation sector while strengthening domestic energy security. The facility will support the creation of a robust SAF ecosystem by encouraging indigenous production of low-carbon aviation fuels and reducing reliance on imported fossil-based alternatives.

The project aligns with India’s sustainable aviation objectives, including the implementation of SAF blending targets of 1 percent by 2027, 2 percent by 2028 and 5 percent by 2030. It is also consistent with international aviation decarbonization efforts under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which seeks to reduce the environmental impact of global air travel.

Commenting on the development, Vijay Nirani, Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, said, “The approval represents an important milestone in our journey to develop next-generation clean energy solutions. Sustainable Aviation Fuel will play a critical role in reducing emissions from the aviation sector and supporting the global transition toward lower-carbon energy systems. We appreciate the Government of India’s continued support for innovation and the commercialization of advanced biofuels, which will help strengthen India’s position in the global clean energy landscape.” The financial assistance will be released in accordance with project milestones and the terms of the agreement to be executed with the Centre for High Technology.

With an installed ethanol production capacity of 2,000 KLPD and operations spanning multiple segments of the biofuels value chain, TruAlt continues to expand its portfolio across ethanol, compressed biogas, sustainable aviation fuel and emerging renewable energy solutions. Through investments in advanced technologies and circular bioeconomy initiatives, the company remains focused on supporting India’s long-term energy transition while creating sustainable value across the agricultural and industrial ecosystem.
