Tata Electronics and FUJIFILM Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of India’s semiconductor materials ecosystem. Under the partnership, Fujifilm will use its expertise in semiconductor materials to develop and supply products for Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.

The partnership will focus on strengthening the local supply chain for materials required in semiconductor manufacturing. Fujifilm will work with Indian chemical manufacturers by providing technology, quality assurance support and manufacturing process know-how to help develop high-purity chemicals for semiconductor fabrication.

Fujifilm also plans to invest approximately ₹800 crore, or about US$83 million, in phases to establish a semiconductor materials manufacturing plant in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). The facility is intended to support the availability and movement of semiconductor materials required for Tata Electronics’ Dholera Fab.

Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics, said, “Tata Electronics is committed to building a resilient, world-class semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India. Our strategic partnership with Fujifilm marks an important step in strengthening the semiconductor materials supply chain for our Dholera Fab. By combining Fujifilm’s expertise in advanced semiconductor materials with Tata Electronics’ vision of creating a robust manufacturing base, we are enhancing supply chain resilience for our global customers, accelerating ecosystem development, and supporting India’s ambition to become a trusted global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.”

Teiichi Goto, President, Representative Director and Chief Executive Officer, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, Japan, said, “Fujifilm positions its semiconductor materials business as a key growth driver for Fujifilm Group and recognizes India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor market as a critical opportunity for further business expansion. We are confident that the partnership between Tata Electronics, a leader in shaping the semiconductor ecosystem in India, and Fujifilm, with its comprehensive range of semiconductor materials spanning the semiconductor manufacturing process from front-end to back-end, will play a pivotal role in advancing the country’s semiconductor industry.”

Tata Electronics is developing its Dholera semiconductor Fab with an investment of ₹91,000 crore, or approximately US$11 billion. The 300 mm, or 12-inch, facility will manufacture semiconductor chips using 28nm to 110nm technology nodes. The chips are intended for applications including automotive, consumer electronics, computing and data storage, wireless communications and artificial intelligence.

The partnership with Fujifilm is expected to support the development of a local semiconductor materials supply chain around the Dholera facility. Fujifilm will contribute its portfolio of semiconductor materials, manufacturing capabilities and research and development expertise.
