Tata Communications and RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. have announced a strategic association to jointly develop advanced digital infrastructure solutions in India and overseas. The collaboration brings together Tata Communications’ global network and digital platform capabilities with RailTel’s extensive nationwide fibre footprint to support the growing demand for secure, reliable and high-performance connectivity.

RailTel, a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, operates more than 63,000 route kilometres of optical fibre, connecting major cities, towns, rural regions and over 6,000 railway stations. Over the years, the company has expanded its role as an information and communication technology partner for government departments, public sector undertakings, banks, educational institutions and enterprises.

Through this association, RailTel’s national reach will be combined with Tata Communications’ expertise in global connectivity, cloud services, cybersecurity and digital communication platforms. The initiative is expected to help modernise network infrastructure, improve cyber protection, support sovereign cloud adoption for sensitive workloads and introduce AI-driven tools that enhance network visibility and performance.

For RailTel, the partnership will strengthen its capabilities in data centres, managed services, cloud delivery and cybersecurity solutions. For Tata Communications, the association provides an opportunity to extend its digital ecosystem into large public and enterprise environments, enabling the delivery of critical digital services at scale.

Government ministries, state agencies and enterprises using RailTel’s network are expected to benefit from faster connectivity, more resilient infrastructure and improved data protection. Citizen-facing services such as railway station Wi-Fi, public broadband networks, surveillance systems and e-governance platforms are also likely to see improvements in reliability and performance.

Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, said the association will help reinforce RailTel’s role in building India’s connectivity backbone while introducing advanced technologies that support modernisation and service delivery. He added that the collaboration will help create a stronger and more dependable digital foundation for the country.

Sumeet Walia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Tata Communications, said the initiative reflects the need for secure and scalable infrastructure as India’s digital economy grows. He noted that combining global technology expertise with RailTel’s reach will help support critical services and prepare networks for emerging technologies.
