Tata Communications, a global communications technology company, today announced the acquisition of a 51% stake in Commotion Inc, an AI-led enterprise SaaS platform operating in the United States and India. The deal represents a major step in advancing the integration of artificial intelligence across Tata Communications’ Digital Fabric portfolio, including its Customer Interaction Suite, which features Tata Communications Kaleyra.
Commotion’s orchestration engine will be integrated within Kaleyra’s core stack — including communication channels, the Kaleyra TX Hub, and CCaaS solutions — enabling automation and intelligent, end-to-end conversational journeys. This capability will transition enterprise customer engagement from reactive responses to predictive, generative, AI-fueled interactions.
Commotion’s platform is built on three core pillars: omnichannel customer experience automation for dynamic and highly personalised interactions; voice AI powered by ultra-low latency speech-to-speech technology; and autonomous digital agents designed to operate continuously across enterprise workflows with compliance-driven intelligence. Together, these capabilities allow brands to streamline operations, automate complex tasks, and deliver real-time, personalised customer and employee touchpoints at scale.
The acquisition strengthens Tata Communications’ roadmap toward becoming an AI-first organisation. With Commotion’s capabilities already embedded into Tata Communications Kaleyra, the company reports strong customer adoption and growing demand for intelligent, AI-driven enterprise solutions. The move aligns with Tata Communications’ broader strategy to help enterprises shift from isolated AI pilots to scalable, business-critical deployments.
“This acquisition represents a defining moment in reimagining customer experience in the AI era,” said A. S. Lakshminarayanan, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Communications. “The early results from integrating Commotion with Tata Communications Kaleyra have been exceptional. We expect this partnership to further accelerate our strategy and strengthen our position as an AI-centric digital ecosystem provider.”
“We see this as the beginning of a new chapter,” said Murali Swaminathan, CEO of Commotion Inc. “This partnership is rooted not just in investment, but in shared ambition. By combining Commotion’s innovation pace with Tata Communications’ global reach and industry trust, we are unlocking AI’s next stage of global impact — responsibly, at scale, and across multiple industries.” The transaction will be completed as a cash-only acquisition under a Stock Purchase Agreement on a fully diluted basis.
