SPML Infra Limited has achieved a major milestone in its energy storage journey, with its proprietary 104.4 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) battery pack successfully completing key international safety, performance and transportation testing requirements. The battery pack has been developed under SPML Infra’s own intellectual property as part of the company’s strategy to build indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities for India’s growing energy storage market.
The SPML-developed battery pack has successfully completed requirements under UL9540A, IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 60730, IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4 and UN38.3 standards at battery-pack and system levels. These tests cover important areas such as thermal runaway safety, battery performance, functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety. The successful completion of these requirements marks an important step towards the commercial deployment of SPML’s BESS technology.
SPML Infra is also developing BESS manufacturing and integration capabilities in Pune, Maharashtra. The planned facility will support battery pack assembly, engineering, system integration and large-scale project execution. The company said the development of its proprietary battery pack will help it build greater control over product design, engineering and future technology development. SPML aims to progressively strengthen local capabilities while reducing dependence on external technology for critical BESS applications.
Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director of SPML Infra Limited, said, “The validation of our proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack represents an important milestone in SPML Infra’s energy storage journey. We are developing technology and engineering capabilities within SPML rather than limiting our role to manufacturing or project execution.”
He added that completing the international certification and testing requirements provides important validation of the product’s safety and engineering foundation. “Our ambition is to build an integrated Indian energy storage platform covering proprietary product development, manufacturing, system integration and large-scale project execution,” Mr Sethi said.
SPML Infra sees BESS as a natural extension of its existing presence in power infrastructure. The company believes its experience in engineering and project execution, combined with proprietary technology and domestic manufacturing, will help it participate in India’s emerging utility-scale energy storage market. With more than four decades of experience, SPML Infra has completed over 700 infrastructure projects across power, water, environment and technology sectors. The company is now expanding into energy storage as part of its next phase of growth.
