Global energy technology company SLB has secured a new engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract through its OneSubsea joint venture to supply a subsea boosting system for bp’s Thunder Horse development in the deepwater Gulf of America. The award further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between the two companies and builds on recent contracts for the Kaskida and Tiber projects.
The latest project will deploy the same standardized subsea boosting platform already selected for bp’s other deepwater developments. By adopting a common technology architecture across multiple fields, the companies aim to simplify project execution, shorten delivery schedules and improve operational consistency throughout the asset lifecycle.
Under the agreement, SLB OneSubsea will design, manufacture, test and deliver the complete subsea boosting system while also managing engineering activities and overall project execution. The integrated approach is intended to enhance production efficiency and support reliable performance in challenging offshore environments.
Subsea boosting systems play an increasingly important role in maximizing recovery from mature and deepwater reservoirs. By increasing pressure at the seabed, these systems help sustain production rates, improve hydrocarbon recovery and extend the productive life of existing assets without requiring major surface infrastructure modifications.
Commenting on the development, Mads Hjelmeland, Chief Executive Officer of SLB OneSubsea, said standardized subsea technologies are helping operators accelerate offshore developments while improving operational efficiency. He noted that subsea boosting has become an important tool for maintaining production from existing fields and optimizing long-term asset performance.
The Thunder Horse contract marks another milestone in SLB OneSubsea’s strategy of delivering modular and repeatable subsea production technologies that reduce engineering complexity and support faster deployment. The use of standardized equipment also enables operators to benefit from greater supply chain efficiency, streamlined installation and improved maintenance planning across multiple projects.
SLB OneSubsea combines advanced subsea processing technologies with digital capabilities to improve production, increase recovery and lower operational emissions. The company continues to expand its portfolio of integrated subsea solutions that address both conventional offshore developments and evolving energy transition requirements.
Headquartered in Oslo and Houston, SLB OneSubsea is a joint venture formed by SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea7. Employing approximately 10,000 professionals worldwide, the company focuses on delivering innovative subsea production systems that improve offshore performance while supporting more sustainable energy operations.
SLB, with operations spanning more than 100 countries, has spent a century developing technologies for the global energy sector. Alongside its leadership in oil and gas services, the company continues to invest in digital technologies, decarbonization solutions and next-generation energy systems designed to support the industry’s long-term transformation.
