Škoda Auto has introduced a full hybrid powertrain for the Octavia, making it the first model in the company’s range to offer the technology. The new series-parallel hybrid system is available with system outputs of 100 kW and 125 kW and allows the vehicle to drive on electric power without requiring external charging.

The full hybrid powertrain is available for both the Octavia hatchback and estate versions in Selection and Sportline trims. The system combines a 1.5 TSI evo2 petrol engine with two electric motors, a single-speed automatic transmission and an automatic clutch that provides a direct mechanical connection between the engine and the front wheels.

“The Octavia is the first Škoda model to feature a full hybrid powertrain. Its series-parallel hybrid system combines a combustion engine with the flexibility of electric driving. Operating fully automatically, the system selects the most efficient drive mode according to the current conditions,” said Johannes Neft, Chief Development Officer, Škoda Auto.

The smaller electric motor primarily works as a generator and also starts the combustion engine, while the larger traction motor drives the front wheels and recovers energy during braking. Depending on driving conditions, the system automatically switches between all-electric, series hybrid and parallel hybrid modes.

In all-electric mode, the traction motor uses energy stored in the 1.6 kWh battery and can drive the vehicle for up to around two kilometres without starting the petrol engine. In series hybrid mode, the combustion engine powers a generator that supplies electricity to the traction motor. This mode is mainly used at speeds of up to around 60 km/h, when the battery charge falls below a defined level or when stronger acceleration is required.

At speeds above 60 km/h and during steady driving, the system can operate in parallel hybrid mode. The combustion engine is mechanically connected to the driven wheels, while the electric motor can provide additional power. Energy recovered during braking is stored in the battery and reused for propulsion. The 100 kW version uses a 1.5 TSI engine producing 96 kW, while the 125 kW version uses a 1.5 TSI engine with a maximum output of 110 kW. Both variants have the same electric motors and an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

The battery is located under the rear seats and its state of charge is automatically maintained between 40% and 90%. The vehicle has a 40-litre petrol tank. Luggage capacity is 460 litres in the hatchback and 485 litres in the estate, rising to 1,400 litres and 1,540 litres respectively with the rear seats folded. Orders for the full hybrid Octavia open in October, with first customer deliveries scheduled for December 2026.
