Siemens has announced the launch of the Eigen Engineering Agent, a purpose-built artificial intelligence solution designed to transform automation engineering workflows. Now generally available, the new system represents a significant step forward in applying AI to real-world industrial environments.
The Eigen Engineering Agent is designed to go beyond conventional AI tools by executing tasks independently using structured reasoning and iterative validation. Unlike general-purpose AI applications, it operates directly within engineering systems, enabling a deep understanding of project-specific requirements, constraints, and standards. This allows it to perform key automation engineering functions such as programmable logic controller (PLC) programming, human-machine interface (HMI) design, and device configuration with a high degree of precision.
As manufacturers face increasing complexity and tighter project timelines, alongside a shortage of skilled engineering talent, the new solution aims to improve productivity and efficiency. Siemens reports that AI-supported workflows using the Eigen Engineering Agent can be completed significantly faster than traditional methods, while also improving output quality and reducing manual effort.
VasiPhilomin, Executive Vice President and Head of Data and AI at Siemens, noted that automation engineering is becoming a constraint as demand grows. He stated that the new system enables engineers to focus on more advanced challenges by taking on routine and time-intensive tasks, while maintaining reliability and adherence to project standards.
The Eigen Engineering Agent integrates with Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal, providing direct access to project data, structures, and configurations. This integration allows the system to generate outputs tailored to specific engineering environments, including legacy systems. It also simplifies onboarding for new engineers by enabling direct interaction with project data, reducing the time required to understand system architecture.
Before delivering results, the system evaluates its own outputs through a multi-step validation process, ensuring alignment with project requirements. This approach improves accuracy and reduces the need for rework, supporting consistent engineering outcomes.
Rainer Brehm, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Automation at Siemens Digital Industries, stated that the solution supports a shift toward outcome-driven engineering processes, where engineers oversee and guide workflows rather than executing each step manually.
The Eigen Engineering Agent has already been tested by companies across multiple industries and regions, demonstrating improvements in code generation, system configuration, and project delivery timelines. Early adopters have reported faster development cycles and more streamlined engineering processes.
With this launch, Siemens continues to expand its portfolio of industrial AI solutions, supporting customers in enhancing productivity, accelerating digital transformation, and addressing evolving manufacturing challenges.
