As part of National Road Safety Month observed from January 1 to 31, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in association with the Delhi Traffic Police, organised a Road Safety Walk aimed at promoting awareness and responsible road behaviour among school children. The event was held at the Delhi Traffic Police Training Park, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, and witnessed participation from more than 1,200 students representing schools across Delhi.
Over 100 followers of the Brahma Kumaris also joined the initiative. The walk commenced from the training park, proceeded to Connaught Place Circle, and concluded at the starting point, drawing public attention to the importance of road safety and traffic discipline.
Participants were sensitised to basic traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and responsible conduct on roads. The initiative focused on instilling safe road habits at an early age, recognising that children play a critical role in influencing family and community attitudes toward road use. The Road Safety Walk was flagged off by Satyavir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Police, Delhi Traffic Police, along with Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Katara emphasised that early education is one of the most effective ways to build a culture of safe and disciplined road use. He noted that when children understand traffic rules and safety principles early in life, they are more likely to grow into responsible road users, supporting broader enforcement and safety efforts.
Mr Banerjee highlighted SIAM’s ongoing commitment to road safety through its ‘सुरक्षितसफर(Safe Journey)’ initiative. He stated that SIAM and its member companies continue to support programmes focused on awareness, education, and behavioural change to improve road safety outcomes across the country. Initiatives such as the Road Safety Walk, he added, aim to encourage mutual respect among road users and reinforce the importance of following traffic regulations.
The event forms part of SIAM’s wider road safety efforts undertaken in collaboration with government agencies, enforcement authorities, and civil society organisations. Through sustained engagement and education-led initiatives, SIAM seeks to contribute to safer roads and reduced traffic-related risks for all road users.
