Safran Aircraft Engines has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uni Tritech Private Limited to produce components for the LEAP engine programme in India. The agreement marks a significant step in expanding aerospace manufacturing capabilities in the country while reinforcing global supply chain resilience.

Under the terms of the MoU, Uni Tritech will manufacture aluminium investment cast components for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its facility in Dharwad, Karnataka. The scope of work includes casting, precision machining, and specialised surface treatments, all to be carried out in India in line with stringent aerospace quality, safety, and certification requirements.

The LEAP engine, developed by CFM International, is widely used in next-generation single-aisle commercial aircraft and is known for its fuel efficiency, durability, and performance. CFM International is a joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace. The collaboration supports Safran’s strategy to strengthen and diversify its global supplier base while positioning India as a key hub for advanced aerospace production.

The partnership will leverage Uni Tritech’s expertise in advanced foundry operations, precision machining, and metallurgical processes to deliver components that meet demanding global standards. The initiative is expected to contribute to the localisation of high-value manufacturing and enhance India’s role in the global aerospace ecosystem.

Commenting on the development, Kuldeep Bhan, Group President – Global Metallurgy Business at the Neterwala Group, said the agreement represents an important milestone for the company. He noted that the collaboration reflects Uni Tritech’s capabilities in advanced metallurgy and precision engineering, while also supporting global aerospace programmes through manufacturing in India.

Dominique Dupuy, Vice President, Purchasing at Safran Aircraft Engines, highlighted that the partnership with Uni Tritech, its first aluminium foundry partner in India, strengthens supply chain resilience and diversity. He added that the initiative underscores India’s growing importance as an aerospace manufacturing destination and will support the increasing production requirements of the LEAP engine programme.

The agreement reflects a broader trend of collaboration between global aerospace leaders and Indian manufacturers, aimed at fostering innovation, building technical capabilities, and supporting long-term industrial growth. It also aligns with efforts to enhance skill development and drive investment in high-precision engineering within the country.
