Royal Enfield, the iconic motorcycle brand under Eicher Motors Ltd, has proudly inaugurated its fourth manufacturing plant in India, marking a historic milestone with the establishment of its first-ever facility outside Chennai at Cheyyar SIPCOT Industrial Park. What sets this plant apart is its 100% women-run workforce – a powerful step towards fostering gender diversity and inclusion in the manufacturing sector.
Spanning over 50 acres, the Cheyyar facility is a testament to Royal Enfield’s continued commitment to expanding its production capabilities while empowering communities. The plant is fully operational and will play a key role in supporting the growing demand for Royal Enfield motorcycles both in domestic and international markets.
B Govindarajan, CEO – Royal Enfield, shared his thoughts on the occasion, “The Cheyyar plant is more than just an expansion of our manufacturing footprint—it represents our commitment to building an inclusive and progressive workplace. By creating an all-women-operated facility, we aim to break barriers and set new benchmarks in the automotive industry. This is a proud moment for all of us at Royal Enfield.”
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and maintains the brand’s high standards of quality, precision, and efficiency. More importantly, it provides local women with extensive training and upskilling opportunities, creating sustainable livelihoods and inspiring change in the region. With this new plant, Royal Enfield reaffirms its position not only as a global motorcycle leader but also as a forward-thinking organization that champions diversity, innovation, and community empowerment.
Royal Enfield is the world’s oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, with its first motorcycle built in 1901. A division of Eicher Motors Limited, the company has pioneered the mid-sized motorcycle segment in India through its range of uniquely styled modern classic bikes that blend timeless design with contemporary performance.
With a strong manufacturing base in Chennai, India, Royal Enfield has scaled production rapidly to meet the growing global demand for its motorcycles. Over the past five years, the brand has achieved more than 50% annual growth, establishing itself as a significant force in the global mid-size motorcycle market. Royal Enfield continues to reimagine this segment with motorcycles that are not only evocative and engaging but also a true pleasure to ride.
The current product lineup in India includes iconic models such as the Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird, and Thunderbird X, available in both 350cc and 500cc variants, along with the Himalayan—a purpose-built adventure motorcycle powered by the LS410 engine. Royal Enfield has a robust retail presence with 17 company-operated stores and over 750 dealers across major cities and towns in India. Its international footprint extends to more than 50 countries, including the USA, UK, several European nations, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Beyond motorcycles, Royal Enfield fosters a vibrant riding culture through global events and rides. Notable among these are Rider Mania, an annual festival that draws Royal Enfield enthusiasts from around the world to the beaches of Goa, and the Himalayan Odyssey, one of the most challenging motorcycle rides across the rugged terrains and high mountain passes of the Himalayas.
