The Eastern Mediterranean Petrochemical Cluster (DAPEK), developed by Rönesans Holding in Ceyhan, Adana, has entered a new phase of development, with total investments across the integrated industrial platform now exceeding US$3 billion. Spread across approximately 1,300 hectares, DAPEK brings together petrochemical production, port facilities, energy infrastructure and logistics services. The project is designed to create an integrated industrial base connecting manufacturing with road, rail and maritime transport networks.

A key component of the development is the US$1.8 billion polypropylene production facility and liquid bulk terminal being developed by Rönesans Holding with international partners. The investment is being complemented by container port, dry bulk terminal, energy and infrastructure projects.

Erman Ilıcak, President Emeritus of Rönesans Holding, said DAPEK is being developed as a long-term industrial ecosystem rather than a collection of individual facilities. He said the integration of production, logistics, energy and port infrastructure is intended to provide investors with a competitive industrial platform and strengthen Türkiye’s industrial capabilities.

The DAPEK development is coordinated by Türkiye’s Ministry of Industry and Technology and is intended to become a globally competitive industrial centre. Alongside the polypropylene facility and liquid bulk terminal, the project includes container and dry bulk terminals, energy infrastructure, railway connections and shared-use facilities.

Ceyhan’s location is expected to further enhance the cluster’s appeal as companies reassess supply chains, energy security and access to international markets. Positioned between European, Middle Eastern and North African markets, the region provides access to major trade routes and multiple modes of transportation.

Rönesans Holding has also partnered with Surbana Jurong Group to support investor development, international marketing, sustainability initiatives and long-term growth strategies for DAPEK. The partnership is aimed at increasing the cluster’s visibility among international companies and attracting new investments.

DAPEK is targeting medium- and high-technology industrial investments in sectors including petrochemicals, chemicals, energy equipment, composite materials, biofuels and other value-added manufacturing activities. The development offers large industrial plots supported by road, rail and maritime connectivity.

The polypropylene facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 472,500 tonnes once completed. According to Rönesans, this would meet around 17% of Türkiye’s annual polypropylene demand and could contribute approximately US$300 million annually to the country’s current account balance while reducing dependence on imported petrochemical products.

The project is also creating employment in the surrounding region. DAPEK currently supports around 4,000 jobs, with approximately 70% of employees coming from nearby communities. Employment is expected to exceed 4,500 as development progresses. With major infrastructure projects advancing and discussions underway with potential investors, DAPEK is positioning itself as a strategic industrial and logistics hub supporting Türkiye’s manufacturing, energy and trade ambitions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
