Premier Energies Limited, one of India’s leading integrated solar manufacturers, has unveiled the country’s first Zero Busbar (0BB) TOPCon solar cell at Intersolar Gandhinagar, marking a major advancement in solar cell design and efficiency. The Zero Busbar architecture represents a departure from conventional solar cell layouts that rely on thick silver busbars to conduct electricity.

Instead, the new design uses a network of ultra-fine silver lines to collect current, reducing shading losses and improving overall power output. The approach also lowers silver consumption, helping reduce material costs while supporting more sustainable manufacturing practices.

In addition to higher efficiency, the 0BB structure improves mechanical flexibility and reduces stress during cell interconnection, lowering the risk of micro-cracks. These improvements can enhance long-term reliability and performance, particularly in demanding climate conditions common across India.

Sudhir Reddy, Chief Strategy Officer at Premier Energies, said the development reflects a fundamental redesign in solar cell engineering rather than a small incremental improvement. He noted that reducing silver usage while improving durability and efficiency supports both economic and environmental goals in solar manufacturing. The company believes the innovation will strengthen India’s position in high-efficiency solar technology.

Chandra Mauli Kumar, Chief Production Officer at Premier Energies, said scaling the Zero Busbar technology required precision manufacturing and process improvements across multiple stages. He added that the company’s integrated production capabilities helped deliver enhanced crack resistance and consistent performance even under extreme temperatures.

Premier Energies is a publicly listed company and one of India’s largest integrated solar manufacturers, with three decades of experience in the solar sector. The company has announced plans to invest ₹12,500 crore over three years to expand manufacturing capacity, move into ingot and wafer production, and diversify into related areas such as inverters, transformers, and battery systems.

Known for its focus on innovation and sustainability, Premier Energies has built a reputation for adopting advanced technologies and maintaining strong workplace standards, earning recognition as a Great Place to Work for five consecutive years. The launch of the Zero Busbar solar cell highlights Premier Energies’ continued efforts to improve solar performance, reduce costs, and support India’s transition to clean and reliable renewable energy solutions.
