Nagarnar Steel Limited (NSL) reached new heights in operational performance on the 13th and 14th of April 2025, setting record-breaking production figures across key units and underscoring the plant’s technical strength and its growing presence in the national steel landscape. On April 13th, the Blast Furnace at NSL delivered an outstanding daily output of 10,169 tonnes of hot metal — exceeding its design peak of 9,900 tonnes per day.
Operating at an impressive 2.26 tonnes per cubic metre per day, the furnace outperformed expectations less than two years after commissioning. With a working volume of 4,506 cubic metres and an originally rated average output of 9,500 tonnes per day, this achievement speaks volumes about the plant’s engineering precision and operational discipline.
Building on this momentum, April 14th marked another day of exceptional performance. The Sinter Plant recorded its highest-ever daily output of 12,385 tonnes, while the Hot Strip Mill reached 8,260 tonnes of HR Coil production. Meanwhile, the Steel Melting Shop delivered 47 heats and 8,600 tonnes of liquid steel within a single day — each unit setting new internal benchmarks that reflect the plant’s accelerated growth since becoming operational.
“These milestones mark a turning point in our journey. Crossing design thresholds so soon after commissioning is a testament to the talent, coordination, and commitment of our engineering and operations teams. NSL is now firmly positioned to take its place among India’s top steel producers,” said Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director, NMDC Steel.
In pursuit of efficient and sustainable production, NSL’s Blast Furnace is equipped with an advanced Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) system, designed to inject 150 kilograms of coal per tonne of hot metal. The operations team has already surpassed and stabilized rates beyond this design specification — enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing dependence on coke, a major step toward environmentally responsible steelmaking.
Despite initial logistical and commissioning challenges, the team’s strategic planning and focused execution have rapidly elevated NSL from a newly commissioned plant to a rising force in Indian steel. The company continues to drive innovation, uphold world-class manufacturing standards, and contribute to national self-reliance, positioning itself for sustained leadership in the steel sector.
