NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) has marked a significant achievement in the fiscal year 2024-25, producing more than 2 million tons of hot metal at its integrated steel plant in Nagarnar. This milestone reflects a 100% increase from the previous year, when the plant produced 966,468 tons in just its first seven and a half months of operation.
Having reached 60% of its designed capacity in its second year, NSL’s plant is on track to achieve its full capacity of 3.3 million tons per annum (MTPA) of hot metal in the current fiscal. Commissioned on August 15, 2023, the plant is steadily progressing toward its full potential, demonstrating impressive growth and reinforcing the company’s commitment to excellence in operations.
Despite a challenging market environment, NSL has successfully expanded its market presence. The company managed to market over 1.45 million tons of Hot Rolled Coils and Sheets during the last fiscal year, marking a dramatic 300% increase in sales volume compared to 2023-24. This surge highlights NSL’s growing customer base and strengthened market position.
The plant also set a new record by dispatching 229,874 tons of Hot Rolled Coils (HRC) in March 2025, the highest monthly dispatch since production began. A significant contributor to this achievement was the deployment of four Liberalized Special Freight Train Operator (LSFTO) Rakes, which facilitated the transportation of approximately 40,000 tons of HRC in March. This achievement represents a 63% increase over the previous monthly best of 141,207 tons in February 2025. NSL plans to add more LSFTO Rakes to further enhance its dispatch capacity, increasing efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC & NSL, expressed his confidence in the team’s performance despite the tough market conditions. “Our steel team continues to gain strength and achieve milestones every day. With their dedication and enthusiasm, I am confident we will soon reach our rated capacity and approach EBIDTA positivity,” he said.
In addition to its production achievements, NSL has made significant strides in quality certifications. The company secured four ISO licenses and seven BIS certifications, solidifying its standing in the domestic market. Furthermore, NSL earned the prestigious Conformité Européenne (CE) certification, opening the doors to the European market for its products.
Shri Joydeep Dasgupta, Director of Production at NMDC & NSL, praised the team’s resilience in overcoming challenges and emphasized the importance of strategic moves in maintaining momentum. “Team NSL has confidently moved forward, and we are optimistic about continued achievements,” he said.
Shri MNVS Prabhakar, Executive Director & Head of NSL Steel Plant, Nagarnar, also commended his team, stating, “We are dedicated to producing the highest quality Hot Rolled steel for our customers and remain focused on strengthening our position, contributing to the national goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
