Mitsubishi Electric India marked World Earth Day 2026 by strengthening its lake conservation efforts through a community-focused engagement programme at Talegaon Dabhade Lake near Pune. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Earthwatch Institute India as part of the company’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Employees actively participated in a structured “Walk & Talk” session along the lakeside, where they explored the ecological significance of urban water bodies and green spaces. Using digital field guides and interactive applications, participants gained a deeper understanding of biodiversity and environmental balance. The session was followed by a clean-up drive and plantation activity aimed at improving the local ecosystem and enhancing green cover around the lake.
The programme also included an educational segment on carbon and water footprints, providing practical insights into measuring and reducing environmental impact. Demonstrations featured tools such as automatic weather stations, air quality monitoring systems, and water quality assessment technologies, offering participants hands-on exposure to scientific methods used in environmental conservation. The event concluded with a reflection session and group discussion, encouraging employees to adopt environmentally responsible practices and integrate sustainability into their daily lives.
This engagement marks the first anniversary of Mitsubishi Electric India’s lake conservation CSR initiative, launched in FY 2024–25. The programme focuses on protecting water bodies and enhancing biodiversity in Talegaon and surrounding regions through a combination of ecological restoration, community involvement, and science-driven learning.
Over the past year, the initiative has supported biodiversity mapping across several lakes, the creation of digital field resources, and citizen science programmes involving students, women’s groups, and local communities. It has also promoted plantation drives, environmental awareness campaigns, and capacity-building efforts to foster long-term community stewardship.
Commenting on the initiative, Atsushi Takase stated that the programme aims to go beyond awareness by enabling meaningful environmental engagement. He emphasized the importance of combining on-ground action, scientific tools, and community participation to restore ecosystems and promote sustainable habits.
As climate challenges continue to impact ecosystems worldwide, Mitsubishi Electric India’s sustained efforts in Talegaon highlight a localized approach to environmental resilience. The initiative aligns with the organization’s global philosophy of “Changes for the Better” and contributes to broader sustainability priorities, including responsible water management and climate action.
