JK Moving Services has strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability through a comprehensive carbon accounting program aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its enterprise. The initiative establishes a company-wide emissions baseline, providing actionable insights to guide long-term sustainability efforts.

The program, developed by JK Moving’s Sustainability Task Force in collaboration with Planet Mark, enables the organization to measure, monitor, and manage its environmental impact more effectively. By formalizing its approach to emissions tracking, the company is identifying targeted strategies to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

Chuck Kuhn, Chief Executive Officer of JK Moving Services, stated that environmental responsibility is embedded in the company’s culture. He noted that establishing measurable benchmarks allows the organization to focus on meaningful actions that contribute to long-term sustainability goals.

As part of its commitment to transparency, JK Moving submitted its first climate disclosure to CDP in 2024. The company received an SME-B rating for the second consecutive year, reflecting early progress in aligning with global climate reporting standards. The disclosure included both quantitative data and operational insights, supporting informed decision-making and accountability.

JK Moving’s sustainability initiatives span multiple areas, including waste management, energy efficiency, transportation, and conservation. Through its Zero Waste programme, the company diverts more than 4.5 million pounds of materials from landfills annually. Key measures include the use of BoxlessMove®, a proprietary system that reduces reliance on cardboard packaging, along with recycling programmes for paper, wood, and other materials. The company also maximises resource efficiency through the reuse of equipment such as moving blankets, vehicle components, and retreaded tyres.

Energy conservation remains another priority, with initiatives such as motion-sensitive lighting in warehouses, the use of reclaimed engine oil for facility heating, and the transition to energy-efficient lighting systems. These efforts contribute to reduced energy consumption across operational sites.

As a long-standing partner in the US Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWayprogramme since 2008, JK Moving continues to enhance freight efficiency and reduce emissions. The company employs advanced route optimisation, upgrades its fleet with low-emission vehicles, and provides driver training focused on fuel efficiency. Additional steps include the integration of auxiliary power units in trucks and the planned adoption of electric heavy-duty vehicles.

JK Moving is also expanding its carbon offset capabilities through its subsidiary CapRelo, which collaborates with ecolegIT to measure and offset emissions linked to relocation services. Offsets support sustainable forestry projects, with transparent tracking and client-specific carbon credits.

Beyond operational initiatives, the company supports conservation through its affiliate JK Land Holdings, which invests in land preservation. A portion of developed land is offset through conservation easements, protecting ecosystems and biodiversity.

The company has also contributed to community initiatives such as the JK Community Farm, which donates its entire produce to address food insecurity. Through these integrated efforts, JK Moving Services continues to advance its environmental strategy, combining operational efficiency with long-term sustainability commitments.
