Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has announced the launch of its JANPTX family of non-hermetic plastic Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) devices, qualified to the MIL-PRF-19500 standard. The new devices are designed to provide reliable circuit protection for aerospace and defense applications.
The JANPTX series is the first plastic-packaged TVS product line to achieve MIL-PRF-19500 qualification, offering a lighter and more economical alternative to traditional hermetic solutions while meeting strict military performance requirements. The devices are available in voltage ratings from 5V to 175V and include the following variants: JANPTX1N5555UJ, JANPTX1N5558UG, JANPTX1N5629AUJ, JANPTX1N5665AUG, JANPTX1N5907UG and JANPTX1N5907UJ.
Rated for peak pulse power of up to 1.5 kW, the JANPTX devices feature clamping response times below 100 picoseconds based on internal testing. These surface-mount, unidirectional TVS devices are designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge, and power surges.
“By introducing the first plastic TVS devices qualified to MIL-PRF-19500, we are offering aerospace and defense engineers a lighter and more cost-efficient option without compromising reliability,” said Ronan Dillon, Associate Director, High-Reliability and RF Business Unit at Microchip.
The JANPTX family is suitable for use in avionics, electrical systems, and other mission-critical applications that require stable low-voltage protection. The devices are designed to guard against switching transients, RF-induced effects, electromagnetic pulse events, and secondary lightning strikes, and are aligned with IEC61000-4-2, IEC61000-4-4, and IEC61000-4-5 standards.
