mayr® power transmission will showcase its latest generation of high-performance safety brakes at SMM 2026, introducing new XL models designed to meet the growing demands of heavy-duty maritime and industrial applications. The expanded ROBA-stop® S and ROBA-stop M® series extends braking torque capabilities beyond 1,000 Nm, providing reliable performance for large-scale equipment operating in harsh environments.

The new braking systems are engineered for applications such as harbour cranes, jack-up vessels, anchor winches, deck cranes and heavy lifting equipment, where high braking forces, precision holding and dependable emergency stopping are essential. Built to withstand demanding operating conditions, the brakes are designed to deliver consistent performance even when exposed to saltwater, moisture and extreme weather.

A key addition to the portfolio is the ROBA-stop M® 2000, which delivers holding brake torque of up to 3,500 Nm and dynamic braking torque of up to 2,500 Nm. The brake is available in IP54 and IP66 protection ratings, enabling customers to select the appropriate level of environmental protection for indoor industrial installations or outdoor applications exposed to dust, rain and challenging weather conditions.

The electromagnetic brake operates on a fail-safe principle, automatically engaging whenever power is interrupted, including during emergency stops or power failures. This design ensures that loads remain securely held while maintaining braking performance even in the event of component failure, making it suitable for safety-critical operations involving heavy equipment.

For marine environments requiring enhanced resistance to seawater and corrosion, mayr® also offers the ROBA-stop® S with IP67 protection. The brake is available with a specialised seawater primer and corrosion protection system designed to meet stringent international standards for offshore and port installations. The latest Size 11 model expands the product range further, providing dynamic braking torque of up to 1,200 Nm for demanding lifting and positioning applications.

In addition to robust performance, the new brake systems have been developed to simplify installation and maintenance. Their compact construction, durable friction materials and service-friendly design reduce inspection requirements and minimise equipment downtime. Maintenance procedures have also been streamlined, with improved access to key components to support faster servicing in difficult operating environments.

“Our customers are using increasingly compact electric drives that generate significantly higher torque than previous generations,” said Andreas Merz, Product Manager at mayr® power transmission. “By expanding our XL safety brake portfolio, we are addressing this growing demand with reliable solutions for applications where safety, durability and high braking performance are essential.”
