Mayr power transmission Showcases Lightweight Coupling and Advanced Safety Solutions

manufacturing-news

Mayr power transmission has introduced a new lightweight aluminium variant of its proven ROBA® DS steel disk pack coupling, addressing evolving requirements in automotive test stand technology. Designed to deliver the same performance density as its steel counterpart, the new ROBA® DS Type 9120 offers reduced weight and improved efficiency while maintaining precision and reliability.

With the rapid growth of electric mobility, automotive testing environments are undergoing significant transformation. Changing speed profiles, testing routines, and system requirements have increased the need for highly accurate and dependable measurement systems. In response, mayr power transmission is presenting a comprehensive portfolio for test stand applications, including couplings, safety brakes, and intelligent monitoring solutions.

The ROBA® DS Type 9120 coupling has been engineered for high-speed applications, supporting rotational speeds of up to 32,000 rpm. Compared to traditional steel versions, it features a reduced outer diameter and significantly lower mass and inertia—ranging between 40% and 60%—depending on size and configuration. This lightweight design helps minimise restoring forces within the system while maintaining a balance between rigidity and flexibility, ensuring stable and low-vibration operation.

Engineered with precision, the coupling offers a balance quality of G 2.5 at 5,000 rpm, supporting consistent measurement accuracy across varying speeds. It comes with standard manufacturing tolerance IT6 and features corrosion-resistant elements such as nickel-plated surfaces, stainless steel disk packs, and galvanised fasteners. Backlash-free shaft connections and compatibility with standard torque transducers further enhance its usability across test environments. Its modular design allows flexible configuration for applications ranging from research and development setups to end-of-line production testing.

In addition to coupling systems, the company is highlighting its range of safety brakes designed to protect both personnel and equipment in demanding test environments. Solutions such as the ROBA® guidestop® brake for vertical axes and the ROBA® linearstop system for linear motion provide secure positioning and emergency braking capabilities. The ROBA-stop M® series delivers compact and reliable braking directly at the motor, ensuring safe load handling in dynamic conditions.

To support modern, data-driven testing environments, mayr power transmission has also introduced intelligent monitoring modules. The ROBA® brake-checker® enables sensorless monitoring of brake conditions using current and voltage analysis, helping detect potential issues before they affect operations. When combined with the ROBA® gateway module, the system allows real-time data access via network connectivity, enabling predictive maintenance and reducing downtime.
