mayr® power transmission will showcase its latest safety and monitoring solutions for wind turbines at WindEnergy 2026 in Hamburg, highlighting technologies designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of pitch and yaw systems. As renewable energy capacity expands worldwide, wind turbine manufacturers and operators are placing greater emphasis on safety, equipment availability and compliance with evolving standards. At the exhibition, mayr® will present its range of application-specific safety brakes, including the ROBA-stop M® pitch brake, along with solutions for service elevators and intelligent brake monitoring.
The increasing use of servo motors in yaw drives is creating new requirements for braking systems. At the same time, standards such as DIN EN 81-44 are setting higher safety requirements for power-driven elevators permanently installed in wind turbines. The standard covers the safe movement of people and equipment as well as emergency rescue and evacuation procedures.
Safety brakes are an important part of these systems and must operate reliably under demanding wind turbine conditions. DIN EN 81-44 specifies operation at temperatures as low as -25°C. mayr® safety brakes are designed for temperatures down to -40°C, supported by testing in the company’s own climate chamber.
mayr® offers a broad portfolio of braking technologies for pitch applications. Alongside the ROBA-stop M®, the company’s ROBA® servostop® range provides compact braking solutions for servo motors, with options for installation on the A-side or B-side. The brakes are designed for operating temperatures of up to 120°C and feature low mass inertia.
For A-side flange-mounted applications, mayr® also offers ROBA® alphastop® brakes. Where maintenance requires motor removal, ROBA® topstop® safety brakes can remain installed on the system to hold the drive line securely when power is removed, helping prevent unintended movement of rotor blades or the nacelle. The company also provides safety brakes developed specifically for yaw drives, with modular mounting options that allow integration into different drive configurations.
mayr® will further demonstrate its ROBA® brake-checker®, a sensorless monitoring system that tracks brake switching conditions without additional sensors. The system can provide early warnings of potential brake problems and help identify issues such as low supply voltage, increased coil temperature or excessive air gap. The monitoring system supports condition-based maintenance and can be connected to digital systems through the ROBA® gateway module. This enables brake data to be integrated into remote maintenance platforms and digital twin applications.
