Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), the defence arm of Bharat Forge Limited, has entered into a strategic partnership with US-based military mobility and defence solutions provider AM General to jointly offer advanced mounted artillery gun systems to armed forces worldwide. The agreement was formalized during the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris and marks a significant step in expanding next-generation artillery capabilities for international defence markets.

The collaboration brings together KSSL’s expertise in advanced artillery platforms and AM General’s experience in military vehicle solutions to address the evolving operational requirements of modern armed forces. The partnership aims to deliver highly mobile, rugged, lightweight, and rapidly deployable artillery systems capable of operating effectively across diverse terrains and weather conditions.

As military forces increasingly seek greater mobility, survivability, and firepower on the battlefield, the jointly promoted mounted artillery platform has been designed to meet these demands. The solution combines long-range precision firepower with enhanced tactical mobility, enabling faster deployment and repositioning during combat operations.

A key outcome of the partnership is AM General’s proposal to participate in the U.S. Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) programme using a 155mm artillery platform derived from KSSL’s mature mounted gun architecture. Subject to programme selection, the proposed solution is expected to move into development and delivery phases beginning in 2027.

The artillery platform integrates a 52-calibre 155mm cannon with advanced recoil management technology, automated loading assistance, and an integrated fire control system. Designed for both direct and indirect fire missions, the system is capable of engaging targets at ranges exceeding 40 kilometres while carrying a substantial onboard ammunition load.

One of the platform’s distinguishing features is its advanced recoil absorption technology, which significantly reduces stress on the vehicle and weapon system. This allows for a lighter overall platform, improved mobility, reduced maintenance requirements, and enhanced operational longevity. Combined with a specially engineered suspension and powertrain configuration, the system offers exceptional transportability and manoeuvrability across challenging operational environments.

Industry observers view the partnership as a strong example of international collaboration aimed at delivering advanced defence capabilities to allied nations. The platform is expected to attract interest from countries seeking modern artillery solutions that combine mobility, firepower, reliability, and ease of deployment.

Commenting on the development, Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Limited, said the agreement reflects growing international confidence in Indian defence technologies and the company’s ability to deliver battle-ready systems that meet global military requirements. John Chadbourne, President and Chief Executive Officer of AM General, stated that the partnership will combine complementary strengths from both organisations to create advanced artillery capabilities suited for future battlefield requirements.

Supported by world-class manufacturing infrastructure and proven production scalability, KSSL has established itself as a trusted partner for defence modernisation programmes globally. Its solutions are designed to meet the highest standards of performance, reliability and mission effectiveness, serving both the Indian Armed Forces and international customers across multiple regions.
