Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL), India’s leading multinational engineering company specializing in fluid management solutions, today inaugurated a new factory building at its Kaniyur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The inauguration represents a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy and coincides with the completion of 100 years since Kirloskar Brothers manufactured and installed India’s first centrifugal pump in January 1926.
The newly developed factory building is aimed at enhancing productivity, improving overall operational efficiency, and strengthening the facility’s ability to support advanced manufacturing processes. The expansion is designed to enable Kirloskar Brothers to meet increasing demand from both domestic and international markets while continuing to maintain the company’s established standards of quality and reliability.
Kaniyur is among Kirloskar Brothers’ most significant manufacturing sites and plays a critical role in supplying pumps and associated systems across India as well as key global export markets. With the addition of new infrastructure, the facility will be better positioned to integrate new-age manufacturing technologies and implement process upgrades that will support long-term competitiveness and scale.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, emphasized the importance of the development for the company’s future. “This new factory building reflects Kirloskar Brothers’ continued confidence in India as a strong, capable manufacturing base, and our preparedness to meet future demand,” she said. “It reinforces our ability to deliver technologically advanced and reliable solutions, while maintaining our focus on customer satisfaction, workforce development, and contributing to broader industrial progress.”
In addition to the facility expansion, Kirloskar Brothers highlighted its continued commitment to sustainability through the integration of renewable energy into plant operations. Approximately 80 percent of the Kaniyur site’s electricity consumption is now met through renewable sources, primarily supported by an on-site solar power installation. The initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 122.5 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, while lowering the facility’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 89 percent. The renewable energy initiative is also expected to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operating costs, with estimated annual savings of approximately INR 2.16 million.
Kirloskar Brothers is also continuing to expand into new global business segments. In the United States, the company is strengthening its offerings by moving beyond standalone component supply to delivering modular, containerised packaged systems tailored for data centre applications. These packaged systems integrate piping, control systems, and valves, supporting critical functions such as fire protection, primary cooling, and secondary cooling.
Further strengthening its international footprint, Kirloskar Brothers recently secured a major contract to supply 14,000 pumps for petroleum applications, emerging successfully in competition against suppliers based in the United States. With a legacy spanning a century, Kirloskar Brothers remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence. The inauguration of the new factory building at Kaniyur reinforces the company’s focus on expanding manufacturing capabilities, adopting advanced technologies, and supporting global customers with high-performance, reliable fluid management systems.
