Kalpa Power has commissioned Mukhed 1, a 28 MWp DC/20 MW AC renewable energy project in Nanded district, Maharashtra, and has started development of Mukhed 2, a 140 MWp DC EHV-connected renewable energy park designed for hybrid and battery storage integration. The two projects will expand Kalpa Power’s renewable energy infrastructure and are aimed at meeting the power requirements of large industrial consumers, energy-intensive manufacturing units and data centres in Maharashtra.
Mukhed 2 is being developed with dedicated 132 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) connectivity and evacuation infrastructure. Unlike conventional open-access solar projects that generally use 33 kV or 66 kV connections, the EHV infrastructure will allow the project to support larger power requirements.
The project is being developed as a plug-and-play renewable energy platform, with bay allocation, regulatory support and provisions for future battery energy storage and hybrid renewable energy systems. Both Mukhed 1 and Mukhed 2 have been designed with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integration in mind. The approach is intended to provide greater flexibility as businesses look for renewable power solutions that can support changing electricity requirements.
The projects also align with Maharashtra’s Renewable Energy & Energy Storage Policy 2025-26 to 2035-36, which supports renewable energy and storage projects aimed at improving grid reliability and increasing the availability of clean power.
Rounak Muthiyan, Founder and Managing Director, Kalpa Power, said, “The economics of BESS are evolving rapidly this year. What was once considered a premium add-on is now the most financially rational choice for any C&I consumer in Maharashtra. With Mukhed, we are expanding into EHV-connected infrastructure, one that lets us serve the scale and complexity that data centres and large industrial consumers need.”
Together, Mukhed 1 and Mukhed 2 cover approximately 480 acres. Mukhed 2, with a capacity of 140 MWp, is expected to generate around 217 million units of renewable electricity annually and avoid an estimated 1.55 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Mukhed 1, which has already been commissioned, is expected to generate approximately 43.4 million units of electricity annually and avoid around 31,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
The development comes as industrial companies increasingly seek renewable energy solutions to support their RE100, ESG and net-zero targets. Kalpa Power said renewable energy projects will increasingly need to address reliability, flexibility and storage in addition to adding generation capacity. The company plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio and has set an ambition of reaching 5 GW of installed capacity by 2030.
Kalpa Power provides renewable energy and energy management services, including design, engineering, EPC execution and asset management. The company has 350 MWp of installed capacity across 200 projects serving more than 270 customers. Its 310-member team provides plant operations and 24×7 remote monitoring services. The company’s renewable energy portfolio includes projects designed for commercial and industrial customers seeking long-term clean power solutions.
