Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), a global leader in building technologies and infrastructure solutions, has introduced its latest Silent-Aire Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) series at Data Centre World Asia 2025. Engineered to address the surging thermal demands of modern data centres, the new solution offers adaptable liquid cooling capabilities, with system capacities ranging from 500 kilowatts up to more than 10 megawatts.
Designed to accommodate the increasing heat output of high-density computing, including artificial intelligence and advanced analytics workloads, the CDUs can be flexibly deployed in-row or along perimeter whitespace, supporting a range of configurations—from full liquid-cooling environments to hybrid cooling strategies.
To maintain high availability and optimize space, each unit integrates up to three redundant heat exchangers and pumps in a single footprint—eliminating the need for multiple systems while supporting critical uptime requirements common in data centre operations. Smart control systems enable each CDU to function independently or work in tandem with others, responding automatically to variable thermal loads or equipment issues—helping ensure consistent performance without manual oversight.
“AI technologies are pushing data centre densities to new extremes, making thermal management a top priority,” said Ali Badreddine, Vice President, Data Centre Solutions and Project Delivery, Asia Pacific at Johnson Controls. “This next-generation CDU platform was built in close collaboration with key partners in the hyperscale, colocation, and semiconductor sectors to deliver a flexible, scalable response to the region’s evolving cooling needs.”
This launch further extends Johnson Controls’ comprehensive portfolio of cooling solutions, including offerings from Silent-Aire, York, and M&M Carnot. Together, these technologies enable data centre operators to reduce energy spent on non-computing systems—such as cooling—by nearly half, even in warm and humid climates common across Asia Pacific. In many traditional facilities, these non-IT loads can consume over 30% of total power.
With the new CDU systems, operators can enhance energy efficiency, reduce physical footprint, and future-proof facilities for emerging compute loads driven by AI, machine learning, and edge-based data processing.
Johnson Controls’ integrated approach spans the entire building lifecycle—from cooling and automation to fire protection, physical security, and performance monitoring. This ecosystem is supported by a global network of over 40,000 service professionals, ensuring consistent technical support and rapid response wherever systems are deployed.
The new Silent-Aire CDU units are manufactured across Johnson Controls facilities in Asia Pacific, North America, and Europe, helping meet the region’s rapidly accelerating demand for digital infrastructure with strong local supply chains and manufacturing capabilities.
In recognition of its leadership in thermal management innovation, Johnson Controls was named a top provider by ABI Research in 2025. The company was also featured on the Fortune Change the World list for its YORK® YVAM Air-Cooled Magnetic Bearing chiller—an energy-efficient system that reduces power use by 40%, operates without consuming on-site water, and delivers low-noise performance.
