Jindal Steel has completed a major expansion at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, increasing crude steel capacity from 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 12 MTPA. The milestone follows the commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3) with a capacity of 3 MTPA, making the facility one of the largest single-location steel plants in India.
The expansion includes the full operationalisation of BOF-2 and BOF-3, along with supporting infrastructure such as coke ovens, a cold rolling mill complex and other upstream and downstream facilities. These additions have been integrated into the plant to enable smooth scaling of operations and efficient production ramp-up.
With the Angul project now complete, the company’s total crude steel capacity has risen to 15.6 MTPA, including 3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh facility. The expanded capacity is expected to support higher production volumes, improve utilisation rates and strengthen revenue growth.
The increased scale also offers operational advantages, including improved cost efficiencies and stronger margins. By integrating additional facilities within the plant, the company aims to optimise resource use and streamline production processes, enhancing overall profitability.
Jindal Steel operates on a mine-to-metal model, leveraging captive resources and advanced manufacturing capabilities to produce a wide range of steel products. Its facilities in Angul, Raigarh and Patratu form the backbone of its operations, supported by a global distribution network.
The company has invested over USD 12 billion in building its manufacturing infrastructure and continues to expand its footprint across India and international markets, including Africa. Its product portfolio caters to sectors such as infrastructure, construction and manufacturing, supporting critical development projects.
The completion of the Angul expansion aligns with India’s broader push to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. By increasing steel production capacity, the company is contributing to the country’s industrial growth and infrastructure development.
The milestone reinforces Jindal Steel’s position as a leading integrated steel producer, with a focus on scale, efficiency and sustainable operations. The expanded facility is expected to play a key role in meeting growing demand for high-quality steel while supporting long-term growth objectives.
