INSIGHT – The Mind Clinic Integrates Nihilent’s Emoscape Emotion AI Platform into Mental Healthcare Assessments

INSIGHT – The Mind Clinic has integrated Emoscape, Nihilent’s medical-grade Emotion AI platform, into its clinical practice to support the assessment of patients’ emotional states and help clinicians develop a more comprehensive understanding of their needs. The initiative is led by Dr Hamza Hussain, Founder of INSIGHT – The Mind Clinic and Head of Mental Health at Ruby Hospital, Pune. The technology is being incorporated into the clinic’s existing psychiatric and psychological assessment processes, combining clinical evaluation with AI-based emotion analysis.

Psychiatric and psychological assessments commonly use clinical interviews, observation, questionnaires, psychometric tools and patient-reported information. These methods can depend on how individuals recognise and communicate their experiences, as well as how clinicians interpret the information.

Emoscape is designed to provide additional information through a non-invasive, webcam-based interaction lasting about one minute. According to Nihilent, the platform analyses subtle movements involving the face, eye region, head and upper body to generate a structured emotional profile.

At INSIGHT, the profiles are considered alongside patients’ clinical histories, symptoms and other assessment findings. The clinic said the information could help practitioners explore emotional patterns that may be difficult for some patients to describe and observe changes during treatment. The technology supplements clinical assessment rather than replacing professional judgement.

Dr Hussain said emotional experiences can sometimes be difficult for patients to recognise or express. He said Emoscape provides a visual representation of emotional profiles that clinicians and patients can discuss as part of the care process. He added that periodic assessments could help the clinic follow changes over time and support a more individualised approach to treatment.

The platform also allows reassessments during a patient’s treatment journey. These may provide clinicians with additional information about changes in emotional patterns, which can then be interpreted in the context of the person’s wider mental health and progress.

Sandeep Pendurkar, Business Director at Nihilent Limited, said the platform was developed to make emotion assessment more structured. He said its use by an experienced psychiatrist in routine clinical practice would help explore how the technology could support both clinicians and patients.

Founded by Dr Hussain, INSIGHT – The Mind Clinic is an integrated mental healthcare facility in Pune. It provides psychiatric care, psychological therapies and counselling, psychological and neuropsychological assessments, lifestyle psychiatry and other approaches tailored to patients’ psychological, emotional and behavioural needs. Dr Hussain is an MD Psychiatry Gold Medallist from Osmania Medical College and practises across psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, addiction psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.
