IndieSemiC and C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram Join Hands to Advance Indigenous Semiconductor and Embedded Technologies

Manufacturing-News

IndieSemiC, an Indian semiconductor design company specializing in chip, RF, and system-level engineering, has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Thiruvananthapuram. C-DAC operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and is a premier national institution focused on advanced computing platforms and the development of homegrown processors. The two organizations have formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at joint work in semiconductor design and embedded system development.

A key focus of the collaboration is the co-development of an artificial intelligence–enabled processor built on C-DAC’s 64-bit VEGA architecture, complemented by an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This processor is targeted at a wide range of use cases, including smart metering, smart city infrastructure, industrial IoT deployments, defense electronics, and sensor-driven systems. In parallel, the partners will work toward establishing a fully domestic hardware–software stack based on C-DAC’s THEJAS-32 microcontroller, offering an indigenous alternative to widely used imported microcontroller platforms.

Under the terms of the agreement, C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram will contribute processor intellectual property and provide technical assistance across system-on-chip integration, validation, and testing activities. IndieSemiC will take responsibility for chip architecture, design execution, RF module development, and overall system integration. The joint effort is expected to support products and solutions for industrial automation, robotics, medical electronics, consumer devices, automotive systems, and broader embedded applications, reinforcing India’s objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and semiconductor self-sufficiency.

Commenting on the partnership, Jinal Shah, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer at IndieSemiC, noted that the engagement represents a structured approach to combining indigenous processor IP with practical system-level design capabilities. By bringing together C-DAC’s processor technologies and IndieSemiC’s semiconductor and RF integration expertise, the collaboration aims to deliver deployable, application-ready solutions for industrial, infrastructure, and strategic sectors. The initiative also emphasizes alignment with national priorities related to security, reliability, and sovereign technology development.

Beyond chip development, the partnership will include joint planning for processor adoption strategies, reference platforms, and system validation frameworks to enable quicker deployment across target industries. Efforts will also focus on software enablement, interoperability, and testing, ensuring smoother integration for product developers and system integrators.

The Memorandum of Understanding will remain in effect for a period of three years, with provisions for extension upon mutual agreement. Any external announcements or public disclosures related to the collaboration will be issued only after approval from both organizations.
