Aptiv PLC announced that a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer has selected its Gen 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System platform for future trucks and buses in India. This marks Aptiv’s first ADAS program with an Indian commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturer and comes ahead of proposed 2027 safety regulations for commercial vehicles.
The upcoming regulations are expected to require features such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, blind spot alerts, and pedestrian and obstacle detection. Commercial vehicle manufacturers face added complexity in meeting these requirements due to vehicle size, varied operating conditions, and extended duty cycles.
The Gen 6 ADAS platform is designed to scale across a wide commercial vehicle portfolio and will be deployed across 14 vehicle models and more than 30 variants for this manufacturer. The system is based on a uni-voltage architecture that supports different powertrain configurations.
The platform integrates Aptiv’s Gen 8 radar and Gen 7 smart camera systems, using AI-based vision software from STRADVISION adapted for Indian traffic environments. The system is designed to identify a wide range of road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, three-wheelers, and large animals.
ADAS functionality is supported by Aptiv’s modular software stack, which is already in use across tens of millions of vehicles globally. The system allows for over-the-air software updates through Aptiv’s LINC software platform and Wind River’s VxWorks real-time operating system.
The agreement reflects Aptiv’s continued investment in India, including the expansion of its manufacturing operations and the establishment of a technical center in Chennai. Aptiv India currently employs around 2,500 engineers and 13,000 employees across multiple manufacturing and engineering locations. Aptiv is a global industrial technology company focused on developing solutions for vehicle safety, automation, electrification, and connectivity across global markets.
