Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), through its subsidiary ELTA Systems, in collaboration with DCX Systems Ltd, has commenced construction of a new radar manufacturing facility at the Shoolagiri Industrial Area in Tamil Nadu. The development marks a key milestone for their joint venture, ELTX Systems Pvt Ltd, and reflects growing cooperation in the defense manufacturing sector.
The foundation ceremony was attended by senior leadership from both organizations, along with government officials, industry representatives and other stakeholders. The upcoming facility is aligned with India’s “Make in India” initiative and aims to strengthen domestic capabilities in advanced defense technologies.
The unit is planned as an integrated hub for manufacturing, assembly and testing of next-generation radar systems. It will cater to requirements within India as well as international markets, while enhancing local expertise in design, development and production. The initiative is expected to contribute to reducing reliance on imports by building indigenous capabilities in high-end defense systems.
ELTX Systems has been structured to facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies and technical know-how, including systems for airborne and ground-based radar applications. The partnership reflects a joint commitment to strengthening industrial collaboration, encouraging localization and supporting India’s goal of becoming a global center for defense manufacturing.
The facility will be developed with scalable infrastructure and will adhere to strict quality and security standards. It is expected to support various programs of the Armed Forces and address evolving operational requirements. Construction is scheduled for completion by April 2027, with manufacturing activities set to begin soon after.
Once operational, the plant will enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities. It is also expected to promote the development of a strong local ecosystem by engaging suppliers, startups and academic institutions in the region.
