Hypertherm Associates has reaffirmed its commitment to workforce development and technical education through its continued support of the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, one of the largest gatherings dedicated to skilled trades and career education in the United States. The company participated in the annual event held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, where its technical specialists engaged directly with students, educators, and industry professionals. Through hands-on demonstrations and training sessions, Hypertherm Associates showcased advanced plasma cutting technologies while supporting participants competing in the welding category of the SkillsUSA Championships.

A key focus of the company’s involvement was the Powermax45 SYNC plasma cutting system, which has become a widely used platform for training and skills development. Hypertherm previously donated nine Powermax45 SYNC units for competition use, and the systems continue to provide students with access to professional-grade equipment as they prepare for careers in manufacturing, fabrication, and metalworking.

Aaron Brandt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hypertherm Associates, said the company remains committed to helping students build practical skills and gain confidence with advanced manufacturing technologies. He noted that simplified operation and intelligent automation features allow learners to focus on technique and skill development rather than equipment complexity.

Throughout the conference, attendees had the opportunity to interact with the Powermax45 SYNC system at the event’s technology exhibition. The solution is engineered to improve ease of use through automated settings, intelligent consumable management, and streamlined maintenance processes.

One of the system’s distinguishing features is its single-piece cartridge design, which integrates multiple consumable components into a single unit. This simplifies replacement procedures and reduces setup time while supporting consistent cutting performance. The technology also incorporates radio frequency identification functionality that enables automatic communication between the consumable cartridge, torch, and power supply. This capability automatically adjusts operational parameters such as amperage, air pressure, and cutting mode, helping users achieve optimal performance while reducing the risk of setup errors.

SkillsUSA has been a leading advocate for workforce development since 1965, supporting students in more than 130 occupational disciplines across secondary schools, colleges, and technical institutions. The organization continues to address workforce shortages by promoting hands-on learning and career readiness across skilled trades.

Mr Brandt emphasized that Hypertherm’s support extends beyond students to include educators, mentors, and industry volunteers who help prepare future generations of skilled professionals. He added that innovation within the company itself has long been influenced by strong mentor-student relationships, making workforce development a natural extension of its corporate values.

Founded in 1968, Hypertherm Associates manufactures industrial cutting products, CNC systems, and software used globally across sectors including shipbuilding, aerospace, rail, construction, heavy equipment, and renewable energy.
