HPE has announced a major expansion of its edge computing portfolio with the launch of new ruggedized platforms designed to support AI inferencing and mission-critical workloads in highly distributed and demanding environments. The latest additions to the HPE ProLiant family are engineered for industries where traditional IT infrastructure is difficult to deploy, including defense, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail, and remote industrial operations.
The announcement introduces the new HPE ProLiant Compute EL2000 chassis along with two next-generation servers — the HPE ProLiant Compute EL220 Gen12 and EL240 Gen12. HPE also unveiled enhancements to the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server, strengthening the company’s ability to support edge-native workloads in environments exposed to extreme temperatures, vibration, humidity, and limited connectivity.
The new HPE ProLiant Compute EL2000 chassis has been purpose-built for operations where size, weight, and power efficiency are critical. Designed around Intel Xeon 6 processors, the modular platform supports either two EL220 Gen12 servers or a single EL240 Gen12 server, offering flexibility for organizations deploying AI and data-intensive applications at the edge.
The systems provide scalability ranging from 8 to 144 Intel Xeon 6 cores and support CPU thermal design power up to 350 watts to maximize performance in compact deployments. Built for resilience, the platforms are engineered to operate in temperatures ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius and can withstand humidity levels up to 95 percent. The systems are also designed to perform reliably in environments affected by vibration, electromagnetic interference, and environmental contaminants.
The EL240 Gen12 server additionally supports NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, enabling accelerated AI inferencing and advanced graphics processing at remote edge locations. Support for NVIDIA AI Enterprise software further enables organizations operating in government and security-sensitive sectors to deploy AI workloads while meeting stringent compliance requirements.
Krista Satterthwaite, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Compute at HPE, said organizations are increasingly moving AI and operational workloads closer to the point of data generation to improve responsiveness and reduce dependence on centralized infrastructure.
She noted that many remote and industrial environments require systems capable of delivering enterprise-grade security, automation, and reliability without compromising performance. According to Satterthwaite, the new generation of HPE ProLiant edge platforms has been designed to simplify deployment and management while providing the rugged durability required for edge computing applications.
HPE also announced an upgraded version of the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server powered by the upcoming AMD EPYC 8005 series processors, codenamed “Sorano.” The compact 2U server delivers up to 84 energy-efficient cores and is optimized for edge deployments in sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications, and retail.
The DL145 Gen11 server has been engineered to operate in temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius and has already demonstrated strong edge AI capabilities. A version of the server was validated in the latest MLPerf Inference v6.0 benchmark results as the only purpose-built server for edge AI inferencing using the NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition GPU.
In addition, HPE announced the availability of the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 Premier Solution for Azure Local, designed for organizations extending Azure services to remote edge locations while supporting disconnected operations. To address the needs of critical infrastructure and defense customers, HPE’s edge portfolio now supports a broad set of environmental and operational standards. The company’s Environmental Ruggedization Option Kit enables systems to meet demanding military and industrial requirements related to shock, vibration, altitude, and temperature resilience. The platforms are also designed to meet standards for electromagnetic interference protection and telecom network reliability, including support for five-nines availability in unattended environments.
Security and centralized management remain a major focus of the new portfolio. HPE ProLiant edge systems integrate HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and HPE Compute Ops Management to provide remote visibility, compliance-ready security, and operational control across distributed deployments.
The HPE ProLiant Compute EL2000 chassis and the EL220 and EL240 Gen12 servers are expected to become available later in 2026. The enhanced HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server and Environmental Ruggedization Option Kit are available immediately, while the Azure Local Premier Solution is scheduled for release in May 2026.
