Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Group Nirmal to establish a zinc wire manufacturing facility at the company’s Zinc Industrial Park located at Khankhala in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. The collaboration marks another major step in Hindustan Zinc’s strategy to build a comprehensive downstream zinc manufacturing ecosystem in India focused on high-value industrial and infrastructure applications.

Under the agreement, Group Nirmal will manufacture zinc wire products using Hindustan Zinc’s Special High Grade (SHG) zinc for applications across infrastructure, renewable energy, automotive, transportation, and industrial engineering sectors. Zinc wire plays a critical role in thermal spray coating and metallizing processes used to protect steel infrastructure and industrial assets against corrosion and environmental degradation.

The process involves melting and spraying zinc onto steel surfaces to create protective anti-corrosion coatings that significantly improve structural durability, operational reliability, and long-term maintenance performance. Such applications are increasingly being used across bridges, railways, transmission towers, ports, pipelines, industrial plants, and infrastructure projects exposed to harsh environmental conditions.

The Zinc Industrial Park initiative was originally announced during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit in December 2024 in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal. The industrial park is being developed in collaboration with Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation and aims to create a dedicated downstream zinc manufacturing hub integrated with raw material availability and value-added zinc production ecosystems.

Commenting on the partnership, Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said the Zinc Industrial Park reflects the company’s long-term strategy to create a globally competitive and sustainable zinc-based industrial ecosystem in India.

He noted that zinc wire manufacturing is becoming increasingly important for corrosion protection and infrastructure longevity as India continues to invest heavily in transportation, renewable energy, urban development, and industrial infrastructure. Mr Misra added that the collaboration with Group Nirmal demonstrates growing industry confidence in the Zinc Park initiative and supports the broader objective of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and supply chain integration.

Hindustan Zinc stated that it will provide long-term ecosystem support and assured raw material linkages to support Group Nirmal’s operations at the facility. The Zinc Industrial Park is expected to attract investments across galvanizing, die-casting, zinc alloys, zinc oxide, battery materials, and advanced zinc-based applications while creating employment opportunities and supporting industrial growth across Rajasthan.

Industry experts note that zinc’s anti-corrosion properties make it an essential material for infrastructure sustainability and long-life industrial protection solutions globally. As infrastructure spending rises across transportation, renewable energy, smart cities, and industrial modernization projects, demand for advanced corrosion-resistant coating technologies is expected to increase steadily.

Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta Group, remains one of the world’s largest integrated zinc producers and among the top global silver producers. The company supplies products to more than 40 countries and continues to focus on sustainability, renewable energy integration, circular economy practices, and low-carbon metal production initiatives.
