On Engineers’ Day, Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest and India’s only integrated zinc producer, highlights the transformative role of engineers in shaping its journey over the past five years. Today, engineers constitute 55% of the company’s executive workforce, a clear testament to its belief that technical expertise, innovation, and problem-solving drive lasting progress.
Over the last half-decade, the share of engineers in leadership positions has steadily grown, reaching 55% in 2025. This reflects the organization’s distinctive career pathways across engineering, metallurgy, mining, supply chain, digitalization, finance, and IT. Hindustan Zinc employs over 1,490 executive engineers, including more than 270 women engineers who are leading from the front in underground mines, smelters, research labs, and technology teams. These women are setting industry-first milestones such as India’s first women-led mine management teams and all-women underground rescue squads, while also taking on critical operational responsibilities.
To strengthen its future talent base, the company recently onboarded 300 young professionals through its VLDP, GET, PGET, and MT programs from top institutes across the country. Proudly referred to as its #EchoesOfTomorrow, this next generation is shaping a culture that blends the agility of a startup with the resilience of a global industry leader—aptly described as career opportunities “from A to Z,” symbolizing silver (Ag) and zinc (Zn).
Arun Misra, CEO & Whole-Time Director, Hindustan Zinc, said “Engineers are the foundation of our growth story. Their technical brilliance and innovative mindset are driving Hindustan Zinc’s transformation and contributing to India’s journey of self-reliance and sustainability. On Engineers’ Day, we celebrate the men and women who are redefining mining and metallurgy while inspiring future talent to pursue science and engineering.”
Echoing this, Kavita Meena, Mechanical Engineer at Sindesar Khurd Mine, shared “Learning never stops at Hindustan Zinc. With advanced tools, data-driven systems, and continuous upskilling, we turn complex challenges into on-ground solutions. This enhances safety, productivity, and customer value, while also contributing to India’s growth story.”
At Hindustan Zinc, engineers are more than operational leaders—they are change agents driving India’s industrial transition. From tele-remote underground mining and automation to robotics, analytics, and decarbonization, they are making operations safer, more productive, and environmentally responsible. Their contributions directly support raw material security, climate goals, and national competitiveness.
Looking forward, engineers will remain central to the company’s ESG strategy and sustainable growth roadmap. With one of the most diverse engineering workforces in the sector and strong emphasis on digital and green innovations, Hindustan Zinc is reinforcing its global leadership in zinc and silver while advancing India’s long-term industrial and economic development.
Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company, is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and ranks among the top five silver producers globally.
