Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has inaugurated a modern Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at Rabindranath Tagore (RNT) Hospital in Udaipur. The facility was formally inaugurated by Gulab Chand Kataria, Honourable Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, in the presence of local representatives and senior officials from the company and the hospital.
The addition of the Cath Lab marks a major step in strengthening advanced healthcare services in Udaipur, reducing the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities for specialized cardiac treatment. The development follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between Hindustan Zinc and RNT Hospital for the redevelopment and modernization of the hospital into a multi-specialty healthcare centre.
Equipped with advanced medical technology, the Cath Lab will enable minimally invasive cardiac procedures such as coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement. The facility is expected to significantly improve emergency response and treatment outcomes for cardiac patients. It will serve over 30 lakh residents in Udaipur district, while also catering to patients from surrounding regions of Rajasthan.
Addressing the gathering, Gulab Chand Kataria acknowledged the initiative as an important contribution toward strengthening public healthcare services in the region. Company leadership highlighted that the facility is designed to improve accessibility to critical care and ensure timely medical intervention closer to patients’ homes.
The Cath Lab forms a key component of a broader plan to upgrade RNT Hospital into a centre equipped with advanced medical technology, improved patient care infrastructure, and enhanced research capabilities. This initiative is supported through collaboration with government bodies, institutional partnerships, and funding mechanisms, reflecting a coordinated approach to healthcare development.
The new facility is also expected to support Udaipur’s emergence as a regional hub for advanced cardiac care and contribute to its growing potential in medical tourism. With improved access to affordable and quality treatment, the initiative aims to address the rising burden of cardiovascular diseases in the region.
