Hindustan Zinc Limited and Tata Steel have announced an expansion of their long-standing partnership to promote the use of EcoZen, a low-carbon zinc solution, in steel manufacturing. The collaboration aims to support sustainability goals by reducing emissions across the value chain.

EcoZen is produced using renewable energy and features a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional zinc. By integrating this material into galvanised steel production, the companies aim to reduce emissions at the raw material stage while maintaining performance and durability.

Zinc plays a critical role in protecting steel from corrosion, extending its lifespan and improving structural reliability. It is widely used across industries including infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy and electronics. The adoption of low-carbon zinc offers an opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of these applications without compromising quality.

The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies and reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing. By incorporating EcoZen into its processes, Tata Steel is taking steps to reduce Scope 3 emissions while strengthening its overall sustainability framework.

The use of low-carbon zinc can result in measurable emission reductions during steel production, providing customers with a more sustainable alternative. This approach aligns with broader industry efforts to transition toward cleaner manufacturing practices and meet evolving environmental standards.

Both companies emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving large-scale change within the industrial ecosystem. The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of greener supply chains and support India’s transition toward low-carbon industrial growth.

Hindustan Zinc Limited (BSE: 500188; NSE: HINDZINC), a company of the Vedanta Group, is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and ranks among the top five silver producers globally. The company exports to more than 40 countries and commands roughly 77 percent share of India’s primary zinc market.

The organisation was recognised as the world’s most sustainable company in the metals and mining category for the third consecutive year in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025. In the same year, it became the first Indian company to join the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM).

Hindustan Zinc has also introduced EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon zinc brand produced using renewable energy. The product has a carbon footprint nearly 75 percent lower than the global industry average. The company is 3.32 times water-positive and has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
