Hical Technologies has commercially launched and completed the first customer delivery of its indigenously developed Coreless Brushless DC (BLDC) Motor for space applications, adding a locally manufactured component to India’s growing satellite and aerospace supply chain. The motor has been developed for satellite attitude-control systems, including reaction wheels and momentum wheels that help maintain spacecraft orientation in orbit. The platform can be adapted for different satellite classes and mission profiles, ranging from Low Earth Orbit and Geostationary satellites to deep-space and interplanetary missions.

“Hical has always focused on precision-engineered electromechanical systems for mission-critical use. Taking a coreless BLDC motor from design through qualification to commercial delivery, entirely in India, is proof that space-grade motion control can be built here,” said Yashas Jaiveer, Managing Director, Hical Technologies.

The motor uses a zero-cogging coreless architecture designed to eliminate the cogging effects associated with conventional motor designs. According to Hical, the configuration enables smoother and more precise motion control while providing rapid acceleration and deceleration, low torque ripple, reduced vibration and quiet operation.

The motor is also designed to offer improved efficiency and reliability for precision motion-control applications in spacecraft. Hical said it is receiving interest from Indian and international satellite manufacturers as governments and private companies increase investment in satellite constellations, Earth observation, communications infrastructure and national security programmes.

The development addresses a technology category that has traditionally depended on imports and is intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities for mission-critical satellite components. Attitude-control hardware is an essential part of satellite systems, making reliable local sourcing an important consideration as India’s space sector expands and private participation increases.

The product was developed, qualified and prepared for commercial production by a multidisciplinary team of eight engineers, manufacturing specialists, quality professionals and technicians. The programme involved activities spanning product design, testing, qualification and production, helping establish capabilities across the complete lifecycle of a space-grade electromechanical component. The commercial launch builds on Hical’s existing portfolio of aerospace and space-grade products. The company plans to expand its coreless motor platform and develop additional indigenous motion-control components for space applications.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, Hical Technologies manufactures high-precision electromechanical systems for leading global aerospace and defence companies. The company continues to invest in engineering excellence, advanced manufacturing and research, while supporting the growth of India’s aerospace industry and contributing to the country’s vision of building a globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem.
