HD Hyundai has announced the promotion of Executive Vice Chairman Chung Kisun to Chairman, as part of its recent leadership appointments. Chairman Chung holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yonsei University and an MBA from Stanford University in the U.S.

He began his professional journey in 2009 with the Finance Team of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Corporate Planning Division. Over the years, he has held various key roles, including Head of Management Support at HD Hyundai, Head of Ship Sales at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and CEO of HD Hyundai Marine Solution.

Currently, he serves as CEO of HD Hyundai, the group’s holding company, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), which oversees the shipbuilding division. With this latest appointment, he has also taken on the role of Co-CEO of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, where he will focus on revitalizing the construction equipment business and identifying new growth opportunities.

Chairman Chung was instrumental in founding HD Hyundai Marine Solution in 2016, transforming it into one of the group’s core operations with a market capitalization of 11 trillion KRW. In 2021, he led the acquisition of Doosan Infracore, expanding the company’s presence in the construction equipment sector and positioning it as another key growth driver.

As Executive Vice Chairman, Chung played a central role in overseeing the group’s major strategic initiatives. Recently, his leadership has focused on developing future growth engines — including AI integration, digital transformation, and eco-friendly technologies — while strengthening cooperation with the United States, particularly in efforts to revive the shipbuilding industry through partnerships with influential U.S. stakeholders.

An HD Hyundai representative commented, “This leadership change demonstrates our commitment to ushering in a new era of innovation and resilience in an increasingly competitive global market. Under Chairman Chung’s leadership, HD Hyundai will continue to lead the shipbuilding industry, contribute to the Korea–U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Project, and support the growth of the Korean economy and national interests.”
