HARTING India Pvt Ltd is contributing to the ongoing train modernisation programme of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), as part of a mid-life refurbishment initiative being executed with Hyundai Rotem. The programme focuses on upgrading older metro trains operating on the Blue Line, originally introduced between 2002 and 2007.
The refurbishment initiative aims to extend the service life of these trains while aligning them with current standards of safety, reliability, and passenger comfort. As part of this effort, DMRC is implementing a wide range of upgrades, including enhanced safety systems, improved passenger information technologies, and modern onboard facilities.
HARTING India is supporting the programme by delivering advanced connectivity solutions that enable seamless communication between critical onboard systems. These solutions play a vital role in powering applications such as passenger Wi-Fi, intelligent CCTV surveillance, and advanced fire detection systems. By ensuring reliable data and power transmission, the company’s technologies contribute to real-time monitoring, improved safety, and efficient system integration across metro operations.
The upgraded trains are being equipped with modern IP-based Passenger Announcement and Passenger Information Systems (PA-PIS), LCD-based dynamic route maps, and enhanced CCTV networks. In addition, advanced fire detection systems featuring smoke and heat sensors are being installed to strengthen safety measures. These technologies are designed to provide passengers with real-time travel updates while enabling faster response during emergency situations.
Reliable interconnection infrastructure remains a key enabler for these advancements. HARTING India’s solutions ensure uninterrupted communication between onboard subsystems, supporting consistent performance and operational efficiency. The integration of such technologies is increasingly critical as urban transit systems adopt digital and smart mobility solutions.
Commenting on the development, Prasoon Gautam, who leads the transportation segment for the North region at HARTING India, stated that modern metro networks depend heavily on dependable connectivity to support safety, communication, and passenger information systems. He noted that the company’s contribution reflects its focus on enabling future-ready transportation infrastructure that enhances both passenger experience and operational reliability.
With urban transit networks rapidly evolving, the demand for robust and scalable connectivity solutions continues to grow. HARTING India’s involvement in the Delhi Metro modernisation project highlights its role in supporting next-generation mobility systems across the country.
Established in India in 2005, HARTING India operates with its headquarters in Chennai and additional offices in Bengaluru, Pune, and Noida. The company brings global expertise in interconnection technologies to support a wide range of sectors, including transportation, industrial automation, energy, and infrastructure, contributing to the advancement of India’s industrial and mobility landscape.
