Gradiant has expanded its Global Engineering Center (GEC) in Coimbatore, more than doubling its engineering workforce in the city as the company strengthens its project execution capabilities for customers across international markets. The expansion will increase the Coimbatore engineering team from around 100 professionals to more than 200. The centre will bring together expertise in process engineering, detailed design and project engineering, allowing teams in India to take greater responsibility for engineering and design work supporting Gradiant’s global projects.
“Coimbatore combines strong engineering talent with a deep industrial heritage, making it an important location for Gradiant as we scale our global engineering capabilities. This expansion strengthens our multidisciplinary organization and enables greater ownership of complex projects for customers across markets,” said Govind Alagappan, COO, Gradiant.
The investment will create opportunities for engineers across several disciplines. Professionals will work on international projects involving advanced water and wastewater technologies, global engineering standards and multidisciplinary project execution. Experienced engineers will also support the development of younger professionals and create pathways into technical leadership, project management and global project-facing positions.
Coimbatore has emerged as an important location for the company because of its established manufacturing base and strong pool of engineering talent. The centre will support Gradiant’s expanding project portfolio across sectors including semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and pharmaceuticals.
Growing investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing and data centres is increasing the need for reliable water treatment, recycling and wastewater management. These industries require significant quantities of water, making efficient treatment and reuse an important part of their infrastructure.
“India is becoming increasingly important to Gradiant’s global growth strategy. Our investment in Coimbatore allows us to combine India’s engineering talent with our global project pipeline, strengthening our ability to support customers in India and around the world,” said Hari Prasad, Managing Director of India, Gradiant.
Gradiant has already delivered several water and wastewater projects in India. Its work includes a 10,000 cubic metre per day wastewater recycling project for a solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company has also delivered an integrated ultrapure water, wastewater treatment and recycling, and zero liquid discharge facility for a US semiconductor manufacturer at its Gujarat site. Over the next three years, Gradiant plans to further expand its engineering capabilities in India. Its Chennai and Coimbatore operations are expected to form a strategic engineering hub supporting projects in international markets.
The Coimbatore expansion reinforces Gradiant’s commitment to India as both an important market and an engineering base. It will enable Indian engineering teams to participate in large international projects while strengthening the company’s ability to deliver advanced water infrastructure to customers worldwide.
Founded at MIT and headquartered in Boston, Gradiant provides water and wastewater treatment solutions for industries supporting the global AI economy. The company develops technologies for water reduction, reuse and treatment across sectors including semiconductor manufacturing, data centres, energy and advanced manufacturing. Gradiant has delivered more than 3,000 treatment plants across 92 countries.
