Godrej Enterprises Group has introduced India’s first Multi Ion battery technology for electric forklifts through its Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business, marking a major advancement in sustainable industrial mobility solutions. The launch is aimed at addressing the growing requirement for efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy systems across India’s expanding manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing sectors.

The new battery technology has been developed to deliver lower total cost of ownership, higher operational uptime, and long-term reliability for material handling applications. According to the company, the solution is capable of reducing ownership costs by nearly 25 percent while supporting cleaner warehouse and industrial operations. Designed for lifecycle durability, the battery is engineered to last for the entire operational lifespan of the forklift, significantly reducing replacement frequency and maintenance costs.

India’s warehousing and industrial infrastructure market has witnessed strong growth in recent years, driven by rapid expansion in e-commerce, third-party logistics, manufacturing, and organised supply chains. Industry data indicates that industrial and warehousing leasing activity across India’s top cities crossed 11 million square feet during the first quarter of 2026, registering strong year-on-year growth. As warehouses become denser and operational throughput increases, businesses are increasingly prioritising energy-efficient and future-ready material handling solutions.

The Multi Ion battery technology combines fast charging, opportunity charging, high energy efficiency, and zero-maintenance operations in a single platform. Unlike conventional battery systems, the technology eliminates dependence on rare earth materials while also reducing disposal-related environmental concerns. Developed in collaboration with one of India’s deep-tech battery innovators, the system delivers up to 5,000 charging life cycles, which is nearly 60 percent higher than standard lithium-ion alternatives currently used in industrial applications.

Another significant advantage of the technology is its ability to perform efficiently in high-temperature operating environments exceeding 45 degrees Celsius. This makes the system particularly suitable for Indian climatic conditions, especially in large industrial parks, manufacturing units, logistics hubs, and outdoor operational environments where thermal stability is critical.

Speaking on the launch, Anil Lingayat, Business Head – Material Handling Equipment, Godrej Enterprises Group, said, “India’s supply chains are evolving rapidly, creating demand for energy solutions that can deliver reliability, sustainability, and long-term value. With Multi Ion battery technology, we are redefining how industrial equipment is powered by combining advanced engineering with operational efficiency. The solution is designed to improve uptime, reduce ownership costs, and enable cleaner logistics operations across industries, including MSMEs.”

The company stated that the launch reflects its continued investment in advanced engineering, research and development, and digital integration within the material handling equipment segment. The technology has undergone more than 5,000 hours of real-world validation testing and is backed by a seven-year warranty, reinforcing confidence in long-term performance and durability.

As industries increasingly focus on sustainable operations and carbon reduction goals, the demand for electric forklifts and alternative energy solutions is expected to rise significantly. Godrej Enterprises Group believes the Multi Ion platform will help strengthen supply chain productivity, warehouse efficiency, and operational resilience while supporting India’s broader sustainability and industrial modernisation objectives.
