Exide Industries Limited, India’s leading storage battery manufacturer, today announced the launch of Exide AGMi, a new Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery range introduced for the Indian aftermarket. The product line is aimed at meeting the rising power requirements of modern passenger vehicles equipped with high electrical loads, advanced electronics, and start-stop technology.
Exide AGMi features spill-proof AGM-VRLA construction, improved safety, stronger cranking power, up to three times longer cycle life compared to conventional batteries, and higher resistance to vibration—making it suitable for both city and long-haul driving conditions. The range will be available across DIN 50, DIN 60, DIN 70, DIN 80 and DIN 95, covering vehicle categories from mass-market models to ultra-luxury cars. With this launch, Exide becomes the only Indian storage battery manufacturer offering a complete AGM lineup.
Commenting on the launch, Rajeev Khandelwal, Executive Director – Trade, Exide Industries Ltd., said, “Exide AGMi brings advanced AGM technology to the Indian automotive aftermarket and strengthens our position in high-performance battery solutions for modern mobility.” He added that expected growth in the premium passenger vehicle segment—supported by improving trade opportunities such as the India–EU deal—creates a timely market for this introduction.
As AGM technology becomes the preferred original equipment standard for premium vehicles and new electrical architectures, Exide AGMi has been developed specifically for vehicles originally fitted with AGM batteries, ensuring correct fitment and performance consistency. The Exide AGMi range will initially be available through select aftermarket channel partners in the top 10 cities, followed by phased rollout across additional markets.
For over seven decades, Exide has remained one of India’s most trusted battery brands, with strong recall and a wide product footprint. The company designs, manufactures, markets, and sells one of the world’s broadest ranges of lead-acid storage batteries—from 2.5Ah to 20,200Ah—serving automotive, power, telecom, infrastructure, UPS, railways, mining, and defence sectors. Exide holds a leadership position in India and exports to over 60 countries across six continents.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL), Exide is in advanced stages of setting up a 12 GWh greenfield lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, planned in two phases of 6 GWh each. The project will include module and pack production for electric mobility and stationary storage. EESL currently assembles and sells lithium-ion modules and packs from its operational facility in Prantij, Gujarat.
