The European Commission has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into mobile cranes imported from China after a formal complaint was submitted by major European manufacturers through the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. The complaint covers mobile cranes used for lifting and transporting materials on land, with a minimum lifting capacity of 30 tonnes and installed on self-propelled vehicles. These machines play a vital role in Europe’s infrastructure, defense, and energy sectors, making them strategically important to the region.

Manufacturers supporting the complaint represent a substantial share of the EU mobile crane market and include Manitowoc, Liebherr, Sennebogen, and Tadano. “Manitowoc fully supports the European Commission’s investigation to safeguard fair market conditions and defend European manufacturing, innovation, and employment,” said Aaron H Ravenscroft, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Manitowoc Company, Inc. “We call on the Commission to move swiftly to reestablish fair competition across the European Union.”

The sector employs approximately 3 million people in the EU, including more than 1.2 million in Germany, and generates an estimated €870 billion in annual turnover. Around 80% of machinery sold in the EU is produced within the region.
