Dürr AG has unveiled the EcoRP4, a newly engineered generation of robotic systems for automotive paint applications, marking a significant step forward in efficiency, accessibility, and cost optimization for high-volume production environments. Designed as the successor to the established EcoRP E/L x33iC model, the EcoRP4 brings a refined mechanical concept tailored to modern paint shop demands.
Building on a legacy that has seen nearly 20,000 robots from the Ecopaint series deployed globally since 1998, the EcoRP4 has been developed with a clear focus on streamlined performance and reduced lifecycle costs. Its simplified construction, featuring fewer components and an optimized mechanical layout, allows manufacturers to achieve lower maintenance requirements and improved operational reliability without compromising application quality.
A defining feature of the EcoRP4 is its asymmetrical arm architecture. By offsetting the applicator’s tool center point laterally by more than 200 millimeters, the design significantly improves access to complex interior sections of vehicle bodies. This advancement enables precise coating of areas such as door rebates, hinge zones, and transition edges—regions traditionally challenging to reach. To ensure adaptability across production lines, the robot is available in mirrored configurations for both sides of the vehicle body.
The compact design further enhances performance. A slimmer first arm reduces spatial requirements while increasing maneuverability around the car body. Meanwhile, the second arm integrates essential components such as the applicator, color changer, and metering systems in close proximity to the paint outlet. This configuration shortens tubing distances, enabling faster color changes and reducing material waste.
Process control systems have also been refined. Core technology is housed within the first arm, now redesigned for improved accessibility. A continuous side-opening cover allows quicker access to internal components, simplifying servicing procedures and reducing downtime during maintenance operations. Additionally, drive technology for key axes has been reengineered. By eliminating intermediate gearbox stages and mounting drive elements directly onto motor shafts, the system reduces wear and minimizes the need for ongoing maintenance.
Compatible with advanced application methods, including high-transfer-efficiency processes, the EcoRP4 is engineered for flexible integration across a range of paint shop configurations. Market introduction is scheduled for 2027.
