DHL Group has taken a major step forward in its digital transformation journey by partnering with AI startup HappyRobot to deploy autonomous AI agents within DHL Supply Chain, its global contract logistics division. The collaboration aims to modernize operational communication, improve customer responsiveness, and enhance employee experience through scalable, AI-driven automation.

HappyRobot’s AI agents are already active across several DHL regions, managing tasks such as appointment scheduling, driver coordination, and high-priority warehouse communications. These agents autonomously handle both voice and email interactions, delivering faster, more consistent, and round-the-clock communication between teams, partners, and customers.

“As part of our structured and strategic approach to AI, DHL Supply Chain has spent the last 18 months identifying and validating use cases for generative and agentic AI,” said Sally Miller, Chief Information Officer, DHL Supply Chain. “We’re now embedding AI agents into our processes to boost efficiency, elevate service quality for our customers, and make everyday work more meaningful for our employees.”

Building on DHL’s strong foundation in data analytics, robotic process automation, and self-learning systems, these new AI tools are streamlining routine workflows — including manual data entry, appointment management, and standardized communication. Current deployments already process hundreds of thousands of emails and millions of voice minutes annually, helping DHL teams handle large-scale operational communications with unprecedented accuracy and speed.

Early results show tangible benefits: manual effort has dropped sharply, while response speed and consistency have significantly improved. By automating repetitive, high-volume communication tasks, AI agents are freeing up human teams to focus on strategic problem-solving and exception management — areas where human judgment adds the most value.

“At DHL Supply Chain, our people are the core of our success,” said Lindsay Bridges, EVP Human Resources, DHL Supply Chain. “AI agents allow our teams to move away from repetitive tasks and focus on high-impact work. In a competitive labor market, this technology helps us stay customer-focused and agile, while also improving job satisfaction and retention. It’s a win for both our business and our workforce.”

HappyRobot’s platform provides fully autonomous AI agents capable of engaging customers and partners through phone, email, and messaging, while seamlessly connecting to DHL’s existing internal systems. These agents act as a new digital operating layer—bridging data, processes, and human teams to keep logistics operations running smoothly and intelligently.

“HappyRobot’s vision is to create AI workers that actively manage global supply chain workflows — not just move information,” said Pablo Palafox, CEO of HappyRobot. “DHL recognized early on how agentic AI could bring speed, visibility, and reliability to logistics. Together, we’re building the foundation for AI-driven operations at a truly global scale.” DHL Group continues to expand its enterprise-wide AI strategy, testing new applications across divisions to accelerate innovation and maintain its position as a global logistics leader.
