Copeland, a global provider of compression technologies and controls solutions, has expanded its manufacturing capabilities at Atit, Maharashtra, becoming the first company to manufacture scroll compressors in India. Production of the technology at the facility began in December 2025, marking an important development in the company’s efforts to strengthen local manufacturing and serve the growing Indian HVACR market.
The expansion at Atit is part of Copeland’s investment programme announced in 2024, which includes a total investment of ₹500 crore in its Indian operations. The initiative also covers the development of engineering and innovation capabilities at the company’s Pune facility.
The locally manufactured scroll compressor portfolio includes both fixed-speed and variable-speed models. These products are designed for a wide range of applications across residential and commercial refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and cold chain operations.
Local manufacturing is expected to help Copeland reduce delivery lead times, improve supply flexibility and offer greater customisation to meet the specific requirements of customers. The expanded production capabilities will also strengthen the availability of high-efficiency compression technologies for Indian businesses while supporting supply requirements in international markets.
Commenting on the development, Ross B Shuster, Chief Executive Officer, Copeland, said, “India is an important strategic market for Copeland, with a strong economy and continued growth in the HVACR market. Our ₹500 crore investment into our India operations reflects our commitment to our local customers, building on the expertise, talent and capabilities we have in the country.”
Jagadish Keswani, President, India, Middle East & Africa, Copeland, said, “Our continued investment in India supports the ‘Make in India’ vision and builds on the expertise of our India-based colleagues. By combining advanced engineering and innovation capabilities in Pune with expanded manufacturing in Atit, we are bringing high-efficiency technologies closer to customers and developing solutions for India and markets around the world.”
The company will showcase its scroll compressor range and other cold chain technologies at RefCold India in November 2026. The exhibition will provide an opportunity for customers and industry professionals to explore Copeland’s refrigeration technologies and solutions. Through its expanded manufacturing operations and engineering investments, Copeland aims to strengthen its position in India and support the country’s growing demand for energy-efficient HVACR and refrigeration technologies.
