Capgemini and Orano Introduce the First Intelligent Humanoid Robot

Manufacturing-News

Orano, a global leader in the recovery and transformation of nuclear materials, in collaboration with Capgemini, a leading AI-driven business and technology transformation company, has announced the deployment of the first intelligent humanoid robot designed for the nuclear sector. This marks a groundbreaking advancement for an industry long recognized for its commitment to safety and innovation.

The humanoid robot, named Hoxo, has been deployed at the OranoMeloxEcole des Métiers facility in the Gard region of France. Equipped with embedded artificial intelligence and advanced sensors, Hoxo can perceive its surroundings in real time, navigate autonomously, perform technical tasks, and interact with human operators. Designed to mirror human movement, the robot will assist teams in performing complex operations, including those in restricted or hazardous areas within nuclear environments.

Over the next four months, OranoMelox’s innovation division will carry out an extensive testing phase to assess Hoxo’s capabilities in mobility, precision handling, and adaptive intelligence. The project aims to evaluate how such humanoid robotics can enhance operational efficiency, ensure greater safety, and provide valuable support to human workers in critical settings.

“Hoxo represents a new frontier for our operations — combining intelligent robotics with our teams’ expertise to improve safety, efficiency, and competitiveness,” said Arnaud Capdepon, Director of Orano Melox. “We see this innovation as a foundation for future industrial solutions tailored to the evolving needs of our sector.”

“This initiative from our AI Robotics & Experiences Lab demonstrates the convergence of AI, robotics, computer vision, and digital twin technology,” added Pascal Brier, Chief Innovation Officer at Capgemini. “It redefines human-machine collaboration in sensitive environments and showcases how physical AI can address the most demanding industrial challenges.”
