BVG India Limited has been awarded the long-term Lease-cum-Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Kumedi, Indore, marking another significant milestone in the development of modern public transport infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. Spread across 5.85 hectares (14.46 acres), the terminal is designed to accommodate over 1,500 buses and handle approximately 50,000 to 55,000 passengers and visitors every day. Positioned as a major transport gateway, the facility will strengthen connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Developed as a modern multimodal transport hub, ISBT Kumedi integrates bus, metro and railway services. A dedicated Foot Over Bridge (FOB) links the terminal directly to the nearby Metro Station, enabling smooth transfers between different modes of transport and improving the overall travel experience for commuters.
As part of the concession, BVG India will be responsible for the complete operation and maintenance of the terminal through an Integrated Facility Management (IFM) approach. The company will oversee engineering systems, passenger amenities, commercial spaces, parking facilities, traffic movement, safety and security, utilities and day-to-day terminal operations.
The terminal will be maintained using mechanised housekeeping systems, while regular preventive and predictive maintenance will ensure the efficient functioning of electrical installations, HVAC systems, water supply, elevators, sewage treatment facilities and other critical infrastructure. Digital platforms for asset management, automated parking, CCTV surveillance, public information systems, digital payments, complaint management and real-time monitoring will further improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience.
Sustainability will remain a key focus of the project. Planned initiatives include the use of solar energy, energy-efficient equipment, recycled water for non-potable applications, scientific waste management, organic waste processing and water conservation measures. Environment-friendly landscaping will also support the development of a cleaner and more sustainable transport hub. The terminal also features nearly 30,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial space comprising shops, restaurants, food courts, offices and passenger facilities, creating additional business opportunities while offering greater convenience to travellers.
BVG India has also planned scalable operational systems to manage higher passenger volumes during major events such as Simhastha 2028 through coordinated crowd management, enhanced housekeeping and close coordination with metro and railway authorities.
Commenting on the development, Rupal Sinha, Chief Executive Officer, BVG India Limited, said, “India’s public transport infrastructure is evolving rapidly, with multimodal connectivity becoming central to urban mobility. ISBT Kumedi represents the next generation of transport hubs that combine technology, sustainability and passenger convenience. We are committed to delivering efficient operations, high service standards and a seamless travel experience while contributing to the development of smarter and more connected cities.”
With its experience in managing airports, healthcare institutions, industrial facilities, transportation networks and other large public infrastructure, BVG India aims to establish ISBT Kumedi as a benchmark for operational excellence, sustainability and commuter-focused public transport management. The project reinforces the growing emphasis on integrated, technology-driven infrastructure that supports India’s expanding urban mobility needs.
